I have lost one, possible two snow peas to slugs. I have lost two water melon and a few beans due to my flipping boofy dogs walking on them and snapping them. Flynn decided to pimp the patch today and bought some insects on sticks to shove in there! I have also bought a strawberry pot and strawberries and a necterine tree today...just call me Barbara! :S |

OK I can't be arsed to read every post (well at least I'm honest lol) but if someone hasn't already suggested it go and get a bag of dynamic lifter from your local farmer store. It is basically chicken shit but it works wonders. It is a pellet type thing that you just scatter around the plants and smells awful (bit obvious as to why) but the plants love it. If you can get hold of horse manure then great but it needs to rot down first before digging it into your soil. Get the chilli plants growing as well as they are always so easy to grow. Onions and garlic are very easy as well. Spuds etc so try and think of a few things that you use on a near daily basis and go for it. Down there I'm assuming the weather is slightly better than the UK for growing but not as good as up here for certain plants. I used to love growing the hanging variety of tomatoes from hanging baskets or even just in plant pots on the verandah. The other thing I used to do was save any old large plastic bottles (such as old coke bottles), cut all the way around about 3 inches from the bottom, take of labels and throw away the cap beforehand, then use the top part as a type of closh (sp??) (mini greenhouse) over the top of small plants to get them going. It also keeps off the bugs a bit until the plants have established. Then you can use the bottoms as plant pots to re plant the seedlings into before planting them into the garden (drill a few holes in the bottom for drainage though first) |

I'm so excited...I have 1/2 inch long snow peas....my carrot seeds have grown...my Zuccinis have flowers on them, as do my cucumbers and eggplant. Nothing happening with the pumpkins and only 1 Watermelon plant survived :dunno: So its shaping up quite well, could do with a weed though  |

Possibly Possums or even birds. Kevan brought home a bag of unripened mangos (our's has about three tiny ones on the tree). Anyway got annoyed with them - hate the smell so put them outside. Next morning found the pips and not a lot else except for some tell tale possum prints and then the birds came down and cleaned off the pips  Mango juice EVERYWHERE :she: |
