Well Mabel had her first outing to the beach this afternoon. She was really good, we kept her on a harness but bless her, she tried so hard to chase Daisy into the sea  One more week of puppy school, and to graduate next week, she has to do a trick, I also have to make a home made dog toy and dress her up, and I also have to wear a hat - prizes for the best puppy and the most outrageous hat. Honestly do these people think I have nothing better to do!!!!! I am not impressed with the puppy school, this week the teacher actually said that Mabel could be ADHD and may need to go on medication. Now I dont know a great deal about puppies, but I do know Mabel is just a normal lab puppy. If I had not paid up front I would not bother taking her back. She is fast asleep now under Jason's feet (poor dog) as she is exhausted after her outing to the beach  |

Yes I agree, seems very surprising for a supposedly qualified dog trainer to say, surely she should know about puppies behavior. But according to his silly woman (and she says she is also a vet nurse) there are some dogs who are on medications similar to meds used for kids with ADHD  |

Mabel would absolutely love Flynn, they could compare toilet training notes. I am sure Flynn is doing much better than Mabel  |

Today I decided I had enough of being woken by Mabels howling and crying at 4am. I thought the time has come to put her sleeping outside, instead of inside the laundry. I also decided to move Daisy outside too, she normally sleeps in the garage. I went to Kmart to buy a kennel and thought I got a bargain as they had a large size reduced to $179. I balanced the bloody thing on top of a shopping trolley and on my way back to to the car I passed a pet shop, and saw same kennel for $99. I quickly went back to Kmart and lied at customer service telling them my husband had bought a kennel already and I did not need this one, so got a refund. Back to petshop and bought the $99 one  Came home and set up both dogs kennels outside on the patio. They are both fast asleep in front of the tv at the moment, so it will be interesting to see how they will react when I put them outside to sleep. Fingers crossed Mabel sleeps longer tomorrow morning, or at least if she wakes up early, will play etc in garden, without waking the whole house up. |

stubborn is what I'd call her - my dog is stubborn as anthing at times. When he knows he is getting dinner, going for a walk or getting a treat/toy he is good as gold. His first owner spoilt him rotten and while we have broken some ground with him in his training he can be a right pain in the arse at times and it winds me up silly ! One day he will do whatever you ask him too - the next it's like he's on a different planet and looks at you as if you're the dumb one. |

Honestly it was like a circus here last night. About 9pm I took both dogs outside, threw a treat into each kennel hoping they would get in. Daisy immediately jumped into Mabels new kennel, which is a bit smaller than her own, then Mabel got the treat out of Daisy's kennel and then got into the other kennel with Daisy. I left them to it and went back inside, turned all the lights out, but I could still them both looking in at me through the patio door. I went to bed and left them to sort out their own sleeping arrangements. I got woken up at 4.31am by Mabel throwing herself against patio door and barking and howling. I had to jump out of bed quickly to get downstairs to her, as she is loud enough to wake the whole neighbourhood. As soon as she saw me she gets so excited, as she knows she is going to get fed. So of course I had to feed her, even though I know its like rewarding her for barking, but if I dont she will carry on being noisy, and I cant stand that  I really dont know what the answer is to get her to sleep longer. I went back to bed and and got up again at 7.30 and herself and Daisy were fast asleep in Daisy's kennel. The best thing about putting Mabel outside, is that I had no wee and poo to clean up in the laundry, now I can also put my laundry baskets back on the floor etc, and the cats can have their food bowls back on the floor too  Edited by Melibeam, Nov 7 2009, 10:16:00 AM.

Second night outside last night. I decided to feed Mabel an extra meal before I went to bed, so about 9.30pm I gave her some of her dried food, and left both dogs outside to sort out their sleeping arrangements. This morning at 6.30am I woke to hear Mabel playing outside, and fully expected her to start barking and howling within a few minutes, but was pleased as this time was a big improvement for her. Anyway next thing I know its 7.45am and I woke up again to silence. I go downstiars and Mabel and Daisy are both asleep stretched out on the paito  I fed them breakfast and there was no barking, crying or howling from Mabel - amazing. I hope it was not a one off. Tonight I am going to give her some more food again at 10pm and see how she goes. She will end up being an overweight puppy with all this extra food, but worth it if she sleeps later in the mornings. Fingers crossed its the start of her new routine :crossfingers: |
