Heather has an appointment with her surgeon on Thursday and we have a radiology form to have some xrays done to take with us. She is seeing the surgeon in the Gold Coast Hospital so all on Medicare. We were told at the last appointment that we could have the xrays done anywhere. Made an appointment (over the phone) at our nearest bulkbilling place and turned up today only to be told that they couldn't do it as she was going under the public hospital system. Had she been going private, Medicare would pick up the tab for the xrays. As it's public they wouldn't and she has to have the xrays done at a public hospital. Am I missing something? If she's having treatment/operation under the public system and Medicare is for the public medical practice, why would Medicare not cover her xrays at a bulkbilling centre but will at a public hospital? I am soooooo confused. Now having to go to the Gold Coast Hospital tomorrow morning to have them done. Just to cap off me being wound up, I rang the hospital to make the appointment and was told I couldn't do it over the phone. That they needed the form in person to make the appointment!!! WTF is that all about? Luckily, after I let off steam a bit, the guy said the particular xrays were quick and if we just turned up we wouldn't need an appointment. All very odd  |

Sorry I can't but sounds really odd to me good luck with it all. How soon after the xrays will she have surgery? |

It sounds very strange. When I needed mine done I just turned up to the nearest place and they bulk billed but then my specialist was private. I expect that it is a beurocracy thing (ours is not to reason why lol). I hope that the appointment goes well and isn't too much of a wind up from now on. Nicky |

Not just me then  Ops not likely for at least another six months - I think. Depends on what the guy says on Thursday. He wants her to have her wisdoms out soon I think but I'd rather wait until the jaw breaking op and do it all in one go. She's going to be in agony so why make her suffer twice? |

 I sort of assumed ABC would be able to explain it but as he doesn't understand either, I'm lost  . Might even go into a Medicare office to ask, not that I expect them to know though  |
