I had a problem with the Hot Water heater the other day. I rang Energex at 11pm, as they are the supply contact for all electricity, and the unit appeared to be getting no power.

The guy there was very nice, but suggested waiting till the next morning to see if it was operating again by then, in case the off peak service had temporarily malfunctioned.

Well, the next morning it still wasn't working, but the pool pump, also on Off peak was working, so i assumed it must be the Heat Pump.

I called Quantum at about 10:00 am, and they were here by 2pm. He checked the Heat Pump unit, but found it was a fault on the Energex main power board. So he couldn't fix it, but did give me enough info to tell Energex exactly what was wrong.

I am now waiting for Energex, who were not quite as helpful when I rang them back.

Thumbs up for Quantum though

I decided to ring Energex again, and speak to a different person..

Just got of the phone now, and they will have someone here in the next 2 hours, as it appears the person I spoke to yesterday didn't quite do the right thing !!

I did say that I could try and copy what the electrician did in the electricity supply box, to get it working temporarily, but I wasn't sure if I would electrocute myself or not ....

It's done, he must have turned up within one hour.

He did a temporary fix to give us 24 hour access to the off peak supply, and will come back in the week to change the entire meter board.

Can't complain, now that the right people are doing the right thing.

I mentioned to the engineer that I had called energex and been told that my requirements were being queued for next week and he said all loss of hot water supply are treated as an emergency, and are never put in a normal queue, they are just dealt with ASAP.

It is good that I rang them again

I have often found with most things - be it nursing boards/utilities/shops/online services - that if you ring back about 8 hours later you will always get a different answer!!!!

must admit, having read and heard first hand the horror stories about how toooo laid back aus is when it comes to getting something sorted now, I often bite my tongue when im told i will have to wait a day or two for something to be sent/delivered/fixed  - i think here in the uk we take it for granted that stuff will get sorted immediately whether its a quote for a fence or a utility fault.

We had a really squealy regulator on our gas inlet and never having gas before I didn't know what to do. I called my heating guy who popped round on his way past and said to call the gas board which I did. She told me to make sure the area had easy acces and they would be out within 48 hours...I came back from the shops and it was done! AND no bill either :dunno:

I hear about that laid back, she'll be right attitude to services in Aus but can only assume it happens in a different Aus to the one I'm in. We've always had really fast great service. Shit happens but there are stacks of great service providers and workers out there.

It's definitely like that here in WA (aka Wait Awhile) - I called a tradie out on 5th May and am STILL waiting :bored: Internet connection went down for half of my area and it took them over a week to sort it :she:
