But you do need to consider the location of those houses....

Posted Image

Just on the mainland where it says Point Halloran, for the high priced one, and the lower price one is about 1km inland.

I haven't compared other areas properly, but land prices here are a bit higher than inland.

Having said that I just had to do a quick SE QLD comparison....

Land in my area
450mē for $249,000
616mē for $277,000
Block sizes are getting smaller, when we bought in 2003, the average was about 750mē, and we bought a 2nd house in the area for $210,000, 720mē land and small house. We sold it 2 years ago, but it would now be about $340,000

Loganholme
550mē for $210,000

Springfield (not Springfield Lakes)
650mē for $165,000
1,002mē for $210,000

Ipswich
1,818mē - Walk to Uni & CBD Location $254,900
and sizes ranging from 400mē to 800mē from $105,000 to $320,000

I should not have started looking........ I like the Samford area and I just found this one...

$750,000 Samford 86.88 acres, yes, at 4,000mē to an acre, that's about 700 house block sizes !!

But no, it can't be subdivided, at least not yet.... 30-40 years ?? who knows...

You can get a house by us with 3-4 beds for around $180 to $200K (ours cost $140) and you can rent for a lot less. It really does depend on where you want to be and if you are OK not being in the city then prices aren't that scary.

hoping to head to adelaide ... and no, not bothered about traveling as i spend most of my day driving
realestate and domain seem to only have the upper end house prices for all areas, in as much that none seem to be under about $250k :(

Sue, if its any help we managed to get a mortgage in Feb for $100K more than that. OK we did have a big deposit, but ours was over 30 years and there was no probs with our age at all....

Here they expect you to pay it off much more quickly anyway, its the Aussie way

Just try to get a deposit behind you, you will also be ellegable (sp! sick brain) for the first time home buyers if its still avaliable too
