I see we've had our first death...... that'll be us all in masks, stockpiling food and quarantining ourselves. |

I see that the report said: "At the moment this man had a number of serious illnesses that pre existed this episode" It does seem that it hits people with other problems harder than most. |

I can see I will be inundated with calls about swine flu at work for the foreseeable future. I cant believe this country is making such a big deal out of it  |

just like any other flu You do have to wonder how he go it though, he was from a remote aboriginal community, you'd think they'd be isolated enough to be among the last to get it. |

He was transferred because he was critical and Alice Springs hospital could not care for him appropriately any longer. He was flown to South Australia on Monday with a number of serious illnesses, including pneumonia. He was treated in the intensive care unit at Royal Adelaide Hospital and tested positive to swine flu yesterday but died today. Was swine flu really the cause of his death ? It reminds me of my grandad, he died from smoking related illnesses.... he was 99. |

you wouldnt beleive the number of people we have in our dept who are worried they have swine flu  - when we ask them why they are at the hospital if they have swine flu they dont usually know ... we point out that they are risking infecting seriously ill people by being within the hospital, but most dont care |

well we are a tad undecided about out forthcoming trip to Melbourne ... not because of the possibility of catching swine flu but because WA are making such a big thing about kids staying home when they return. My two have just had two weeks off school, then in a couple of weeks it's two weeks holiday then a week in Melbourne followed by a week in quarantine !!!! |

But are they closing down schools and quarantining people? Still think there is a huge over reaction in this country - its a flu, go to bed, take panadol and get over it - thats the message that should be given out to the public  |

I reckon I've already had it. The horrible boss came back from Melbourne with a really bad cold. He wouldn't go to get checked out and I got a cold afterwards and now other people are ill in the office. I'm ok now though. We went shopping yesterday and there was this woman wearing a face mask - everyone was starring at her! Maybe she had it! |

Or maybe she was incredibly ugly and sees this Swine Flu carry on as a godsend as she can hide behind a mask  The thing is...... the health departments can't say, stay in bed and take a couple of panadol just incase people do start to die and have not had any treatment, people will die from this because it's a flu and people do die from the flu if they are immune supressed or have other complications. The stay in bed with panadol direction would possibly see no more deaths from this than the current over reaction, but this way the government can't be blamed for any of them, thus saving their own butts! I was in the ED last night and at the triage post there is a sign saying if you have a fever and 1 other of these symptoms (headache, runny nose, sore throat and some other common ailment) please tell us immediately as you may have swine flu, you will be given a mask to wear and seated in a quarantine area. FFS thats probably half the population of the country! |
