I've done it so many times, but I can't remember now how I felt.

How did I feel? Sick, sad, terrified, unsure, beyond the brink of no return, a small tad of excitement and crying crying crying. With only a 13 year old to keep me company for the whole journey and knowing my hubby was not even going to be at the other end to meet us I was in total head spin. Alex was fantastic, kept his arm round my shoulders all the way through departures, held my hand when we took off as I sobbed even harder and kept telling me that everything was going to be ok.

I remember feeling stressed out of my brain, as oldest was insisting loudly that he was not coming with us and was not going to get on that plane, he started the other two off and we attracted an audience, and a security person actually came up to us and asked us suspiciously if he was ok. I felt like a terrible mother, but then had a brain wave. I gave oldest half an aspirin, telling him it was a very strong chill pill perscribed for me and would help him to calm down and relax. We then bribed them and told them that they could have a coke once they were on the plane and continued to behave well (normally they were never allowed coke so that was a huge treat).

When the flight took off, I breathed a huge sigh of relief that we were finally on our way and had a large gin and tonic to get over the nighmare at Heathrow. I dont remember feeling the slightest bit sad, just remember feeling stressed but looking forward to finally getting to Australia

I remember leaving Belgium to head off to stay with my parents in America on my own with the kids and knowing that I wouldn't see Ian again until we arrived in Australia. We were all really excited and I was just happy to be moving onto the next stage of our life we all waved goodbye to Belgium as we left. I can honestly say that I had no fear or sadness (except that I wouldn't see Ian for a few weeks) even though our life there had been very good. Everything had been packed up for us and sent on its way so we were all ready to go. I suppose the fact that the move to Belgium had only ever been temporary had helped. I do remember that maggie and my visas had been cocked up and weren't on the system when we arrived in LA so that added to my stress levels a little lol.

I felt like it was all bubbling inside me and I wanted to stand on the seats and shout "we've done it we've fekkin done it" as I was convinced people like us (hard workin northerners) wouldn't be able to do it.
It's a wierd feeling being both happy and sad at the same time, it was a relief when we came into Sydney as thats when it hit me.. OMG ..and I just kept telling myself "lets just all get through customs," then it was " lets just all get to the rental," then "tomorrow is just another day....in AUSTRALIA."

I have absolutely no recollection as to how I felt. All I remember is trying to stop Heather from flooding the plane and stressing out all the other passengers. That memory continued all the way to Singapore, four days there and then onward to Brisbane. She stopped crying when a total stranger - Debsy off BE hugged her and told her she'd be fine. My feelings didn't even come into the equation. :nono:
