Sitting at the pc yesterday morning and a white cockatoo landed on the fence and kept staring right at me. Then he started walking up and down but stopped everytime he reached me and stared in. Sat down just before dinner last night and blow me if he wasn't back again. Opened the blinds this morning and within 5 minutes there he was. He starts making a noise if I move out of eyesight and is now even waving at me!

I wonder if he is someone's lost pet. He is very cute and only looks like a baby (I am really not a bird fan but he is cute).

Awwww he's beautiful. Yes it does look like a baby. If it talks then yes it is a pet. Put some left over veggies out and see if he eats them. Don't feed him avocado or chocolate, that will kill him. I belong to a birdy website, it might be worth posting the pics on there to see if its someones pet. http://www.eclectusparrots.net/

He looks like a corella to me (its me, hevs,, but can't be bothered logging out!) http://images.google.com.au/images?hl=en&q=corella&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=g9IpSsGLGIiIkAXBx82GCw&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=5&ct=title

They like grubs and worms cos they are often in big flocks on the ground (like Galahs) and he certainly looks to be a baby

Well he's certainly a baby. He's still covered in downy feathers on the top and can't fly very well although he managed to get from the fence to the roof of the house when I went outside and follows me round house as I go then shouts at me when I come in. He doesn't like the apple I've been offering but has eaten a little bread. I'vbe put some water up for him but don't know what else to do. We've got loads and loads of the things flying round our house every evening and I would think he's just a babe that has managed to get a bit too far from the tree and can't get back. Surely it will probably only be a few days before he can fly properly but in the meanwhile I need to try to keep him fed and watered. We are not meant to have rain for a few days but it is certainly a bit chilly at night to be sitting on an exposed rooftop. I think that if he is still around tomorrow then I might need to ring a wildlife rescue place.

OK, so let's have some ideas for a name :)

Right now I have a flock of cockatoos making an awful racket out the back of my house, so the only name I can think of is 'Lunch' ;)

Well I think I may have to give in and ring the wildlife rescue tomorrow. As it started to turn to dusk Bob/Lunch/Alfie/Doris decided it looked warmer indoors than out and flew straight into the window. Got a bit embarrassed and managed to get back up on the fence but he/she has been calling for us as the evening has worn on. It's going down to 5 degrees tonight and yes I know they live outside but they are usually huddled together in the inner shelter of a tree not on an exposed rooftop. We did try to catch him/her to put quietly in a box until morning but that was a no go either. The fussy fart will only eat bread.

pretty looking bird
I do miss the Corellas I know they are bloody noisy but they did make me smile, I miss the Kookaburras too and the magpies - I loved their song. I miss the crows that used to come and tap on our back door for food too, Oh there is a lot I miss.

*Daisy* is busy sunning herself right now. She was very cold and shivering when we got up earlier, she ate some bread then went back to sleep. It's such a hard one to call because I'm sure she's not far off being totally independent but I need to make sure she survives long enought to get there. I've managed to get hold of a wildlife rescue phone number so I'll ring them once I'm dressed.

Hopefully they can cme and have a look and make the decision for you as thye should know more about her age etc. Good luck and I am glad that she survived the night (I was thinking of her as it was cold and wet here last night :cold: ).

Yes give the Rescue place a call as it does appear that she's been abandoned by her Mummy. Let us know what happens.

I rang a couple of places, well the first one put me on to the second one. They couldn't send anyone to look as they were already out on a rescue. The girl on the phone didn't sound too worried. Asked if she seemed injured or anything as thinks she may have been ousted by the flock if she's not right. She seems fine to us apart from the fact that she is just a bit too young. She can fly from the fence to the roof and definitely refuses all food except bread, even after having trekked through the bush collecting gum nut seeds and going to City Farmers and buying parrott food. She'll only eat if she is hand fed and you can only get close enough to fed her a length of bread. Blooming thing! Now that it is getting dark and chillier she is out there shouting at us again. We did try to catch her earlier to put her in a box for the night but all Terry managed to do was shove her off the fence and into next door! Oops. She did come straight back up though. I think I may have to recruit some friends after work tomorrow to ambush her :dunno:

Try throwing a towel over her - makes her stop and easier to pick up - plus less chance of being bitten

Tried that, but because she's on top of the fence she just drops straight down as thetowel lands on her and ends up next door. She very pleased to see us this morning. It was damned chilly night. There's a couple of bird enthusiasts at scholl so I am going to try to enlist their help today.

any sign of our feathery friend yet??? :(

.. i have been keeping friends here updated about the saga (as lets face it, the most exciting wildlife you are likely to have to rescue here is the odd scraggy sparrow  )

aw I dunno about that, I get Jays in my garden, lots of robbins, hedghogs, toads and sneaky squirrels
I going to defend our wildlife as we do have some lovely creatures here too, just very different to the aussie ones

then there are the horrible magpies and fat greedy wood pigeons

Funnily enough last week on my walk to work I came across a bloody big roo bouncing towards me through work car park - god knows where that had come from as we don`t have bush nearby - was very surreal!!

I opened the blinds the more hoping to see her but  I think I shall content myself with the thought that we managed to nurture her through a rough few days until she was ready to fly off to rejoin the flock
