Holly my 16 year old daugher came home from school this afternoon and said she had been at a careers seminar all day today, talking about choices for Year 11 and 12 and what OP subjects to do!!! Did you enjoy it, I asked and she replied, "not really, did not understand much of what they were talking about" So I asked what she did not understand and she replied, apprenticeships and OP stuff. So I explained as best I could and asked her if she had any idea what she would like to do and she said she thinks she might like to be a primary school teacher. Thats good I said, better than being a nurse  and then she states, well maybe I should do something else coz I am pretty smart  I love her confidence  and she is blonde  |

Sorry teachers on here as the fact remains to become a teacher the OP required isn't that high :o It is good to have a bit of self confidence though  PS I used to do the apprenticeship side of things and I also had to teach the teachers about the senior certificate side of things if you have any questions ;) Edited by Snappy, May 29 2009, 08:14:10 PM.

I assume it is the end of school score that they get in Queensland. In Victoria it is an ENTER score not sure about anywhere else. I does make me laugh that teaching degrees aren't that difficult to get into in terms of score we are obviously just not really that bright lol. Nicky |

OP stands for Overall Position and its a score from 1 to 25 (with 1 being the best), that you need for entry to university. Not all subjects studied for years 11 and 12 are OP subjects, so must be chosen carefully, if you intend going to university. |

Holly just makes me smile because she did not understand what she had been listening to all day, but considered herself too smart to be a teacher  |

That's my point though Mel I think you only need something like an OP of 15 or 16 to be a teacher!!!! |

It doesn't mean that the Uni would accept you for sure with such a low OP if the spaces are tight...although they are so short of teachers so I would expect they would be glad of anyone trying. |
