Two whole years ago today we landed at Sydney airport, happy, bewildered, knackered :tiring: and gobsmacked :omg: , we still feel all of those but also contentment and a sense of achievment, we knew what we were doing was right but now we feel it deep down. As some of you may know we went to Adelaide for a weeks holiday and we have been bitten by the grass is greener bug, so we are now contemplating a move interstate, hubby needs a new boss as the one he has pays him peanuts and is a complete arse, he can also become lisensed (plumber) with a lot less hassle, the kids are up for it bless em, so that just leaves me and i'm undecided at the moment. Wanna go live in Adelaide but we do have job security here, are we   |

Best of luck, good luck with the decision on whether to move again. We moved from Melbourne to Brisbane after three years of living there and I have no regrets, and kids settled relatively easily, although hubby says he still would rather live in Melbourne. |

We are just doin loads of research at the mo, it's wierd cos this move seems harder more complicated than the decision to leave the UK, I think at the back of my mind it's "we have done it can we do it again". Hevs we are in Wagga in NSW 5 hrs from Sydney and 5 hrs from Melbourne, classed as semi-rural, so we would want something semi-rural in Adelaide, lookin at properties between 20 and 40 mins from cbd as that is where hubby is expectin to find work. |

Congrats on your anniversary. I still fancy Adelaide as it was my first choice (even though I'd never been to oz until we moved here lol) I liked the thought of it not being as large as Brisbane or Melbourne or Sydney or Perth. The layout of the main city centre, the gardens surrounding it, the hills, the beach, the shrub the vineyards etc all with easy reach...kind of got stuck up here though and even though I do love it I often think what I'd be up to if we had gone to Adelaide first off. Work wise Roy would have been laughing even now I looked on the weekend and there were numerous jobs for him to go for more so than anywhere else. At least you haven't got the major upheaval of moving to the other side of the world this time :) You will do what you feel is right for you all, maybe go for another holiday just to help with your decision. |

Congrats on the 2 years. I am so grateful we found our spot so quickly and settled in all aspects. Who knows, another state/area etc might be better but we have no itch so we won't bother scratching. Have you done your test yet? |

Congratulations on 2 years and I do know what you mean about Adelaide. Wagga is nice but we were considering moving interstate a while ago and might still go eventually. Our two big choices are Adelaide (lots of work for Ian) or Brisbane (I loved it when I went and visited Mel). As yet we have made the decision to stay put but it will probably happen at some point. Keep looking into it and I am sure that you will make the right decision. Nicky x |

Happy Anniversary :champers: I've been getting a bit of an itch lately to look over East, probably Melbourne, but was having a great conversation with a teacher at work yesterday lunchtime who moved to Oz from the UK 3 and a half years ago. They were initially in Perth then went to Adelaide for a couple of years and have only recently moved back to Perth just because of hubby's job. She loved Adelaide, said it had a much better community feel, the education was far better than in WA and she could happily stay there forever. Says that if she was told she has to stay in Perth for good she'd rather go back to the UK. |

Congats LOL  Adelaide? :hide: Do you have 2 heads? The people are wierdo descendants of UK military nobility. Do you like brown dusty countryside? Do you like scorching dry heat? Do you like freezing temperatures? Do you like drought? Do you like low wages? All joking aside these are factual things so make sure you research as well as you can. And IMO a holiday will never give anyone sufficient insight to a place. It's just not the same as living day in and day out. |

It took us a week and one day visit to decide to buy land here Bix so I have to disagree that a holiday can't let you decide. The only thing I do agree on is that you don't know everything until you have lived somewhere for a while and found the niggles and the blessings....unfortunately you can never really take a trip in time and jump that 2 years to find out the answer so a holiday may be the only option. Two heads???? You're thinking about the Tassies surely or there's a few that I used to work with that I had my doubts about lol |

I think what I'm really saying Sasha is that as you indeed can't foresee or predict what any place will be like until you actually live there then the holiday thing is actually a waste of money. Research and word of mouth is invaluable as is temp accomodation whilst sussing out the lie of the land. 2 heads from the nuclear radiation. |

PMSL  I still think a holiday can give you an idea of a place....but go in a horrible season not just a nice one. Tis true you can't get a full impression as I said before but you still need to have a look. If you go on AdBrits and ask where to live it's like setting off a time bomb as each to their own. So I shall agree to disagree with you Bix :D and when are you coming down here next? I nearly asked if Roy could crash at yours the other day when he missed his flight and had to catch one the following morning at 6am...3am leaving here and I still haven't caught up on that one yet :) |

Ah Bix Adelaide IS green to us, we already live in dry scorching heat, the drought here is in it's 8th year, it's freezing at night and the scenery is a beaut shade of brown, my hubby is a plumber and is on $18 an hour and works a 6 day week, he's had a job offer of $35 an hour when we were on holiday, thats one of the reasons we are thinking of moving. |

Please don't think I am trying to put you off Adelaide as that is certainly not the case. I know several expats down there and they love it. I am just being devils advocate to ensure you haven't overlooked some things. |

 :excited:  Leah has a friend who has been here the same amount of time as us. They spent 3 years in Perth and have been here for 2. I asked why they moved she said there wasn't much to do, they didn't like the heat and flies and that her Mum was very homesick and felt isolated and Perth seemed really behind. I asked her how she liked it here, she said "yeah, its like wayyy better, theres heaps more to do and Dads got a great job. Mums still homesick but likes it better here" Sorry to hi jack Lol x  |
