Anyone wanting to give up smoking?

Terry and I both went to the doctor and got a prescription for Champix. Two weeks after starting the tablets we had both completely given up smoking, no cravings, no bad moods, nothing. Because the tablets stop you even wanting a cigarette it has just been so easy and there is not even the threat of replacing your fag with food because you just don't have the urge. So now that we have both been smoke free for 2 weeks I am going to try to go the whole hog on fitness and have joined a fitness/weight loss group at work. :sadscales: Baby steps I know but I'm trying to make sure that I am still around to see Alex have a family and to make him not be ashamed of a fat smoky smelling mum.

well done on giving up the smoking - I have never smoked so can't see the attraction, but can understand how hard it is to give up after seeing my dad do it after 40 odd years of smoking. Good luck with the weight loss too

Well done Anne.

Dan started on Champix yesterday, so early days for him. I cant wait for him to give up as he makes me want to smoke. Having ciggies around is too much of a temptation. Funny thing is, I never smoke when I leave the house, could go all day at work without even thinking about it, then I would get home, see Dans cigs and wouldnt be able to stop thinking about it. I gave up when I was pregnant with Thomas, but the temptation is still there.

I gave up for a year when we first got here then started again and hate myself for it. Did you get any side effects Anne? That is really great going for you and Terry so keep it up

I've had a few days where I felt slightly nauseous but don't know if that was the tablets or a bug that was going round school. :dunno:

I'd give em a go Sasha. It really is just so easy on them. You are to keep smoking while starting the tablets and then stop on around day 12 ish. But for me it was never even a conscious decision to say that i was going to stop on such and such a day because with each passing day when Someone offered me a smoke I'd just turn it down because I didn't fancy it. I do love the fact that we have not been walking round like bears with a sore head

How are you going Anne? Dans quit day was yesterday and he has achieved it with no problems. For the last few days, every ciggie he had lasted about 2-3 puffs, so when the quit day finally came round, he was actually quite relieved.

Absolutely fine, no problems at all. I don't even think about that fact that I used to smoke and it nevers enters my head to want one. It's only when people ask how I'm going that I remember that I used to be a smoker. Sort of like something I did in another time dimension. I was exactly the same as Dan, cutting down and down until it just wasn't worth it.
