Thanks Rob !!! It went sort of ok. Mum lurched from happy to sad to 'there's no point in me living'. Kids found it tough as they couldn't watch what they wanted to on telly and were limited on pc and there wasn't much else to do. The funeral was at the end of our stay so they were dragged to funeral directors, florists etc. I have found out that I am not the most sympathetic person in the world, so if anyone wants to cry on my shoulder you can have 5 mins then you have to get on with it !! Let's just hope I never lose anyone which devastates me as karma will come back and bite me on the bum. As for my impressions of the UK after three years, well, that's another story .. |

well, I loved it, I wasn't expecting to but I did. It was clean, green, filled with happy, helpful people. All the shop assistants chatted to me, everything (except petrol) was so much cheaper than here. To be honest, the small minded attitude of WA has been getting to me recently and so it was really refreshing to be away from that. Both T and I would go back in a heartbeat. Sorry. |

Why did you take the girls with you? Not sure I would have under those circumstances but then we all do different things. If it were for my mother then just me would go back. If it were Kevan's parents we would all go back (no one else to do stuff). I think anyway, not had that call yet thankfully. Just interested in other views. I don't think I'd want the girls, Heather in particular, to miss school but then I think she's older than yours? |

N is only in year 6 in primary and having a tough time at school so I had no problems in giving her a break. T is in year 8, first year at high school and I wasn't going to take her but she really wanted to go to see all her cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents and all her friends. She's the only one who has always wanted to go back so I couldn't leave her behind added to which it was less hassle for Paul not having the girls here. T has already caught up with the work that she has missed so no probs there. I have always said that when the time comes I'd go back on my own ... but when it did the girls wanted to come with me and my mum wanted them there. Paul has always said he never wants to return yet now he wishes he'd come with us !! |

Do you think you would give some serious thoughts to a permanent move back? I've been feeling quite unsettled here lately but 1) We could not financially get back to the UK 2) I'm not sure if we would want to 3) I've been giving some serious thought to looking over east but would just need to get the timing right |

Its strange reading how everyone likes the Uk when they go back, me included....but I seriously don't think I would like living there now... Roll on the days when the kids stop school/leave home and we can bugger off as much as we like  |

Ok here's the deal. I have never really settled in Mandurah as most of you know. I would love to move anywhere else - UK, USA, over East etc BUT, 1. OH thinks he lives in paradise 2. Kids love it, are settled and in school. Before we went back to the UK T was always talking about wanting to live back there, when we got there this intensified but by the end of the trip she was saying she'd happily live in Aus or UK so basically it's three against one. Paul reckons I will never settle anywhere as I never have, good point, perhaps I should have been a gypsy. Personally I am just hanging out for the kids to leave and I can pack up and go wherever the mood takes me. In the meantime I hope to take him to many varied places around Aus in the hope that he'll fall in love with a different one ! On the other hand, a lotto win would see me buying a house in the UK and I'd split my time between the two countries so long as I can fly business or first class !!! |

We enjoyed our trip back but only to meet up with friends and (some) family. It was a nice holiday but that's all it was. All very happy to get home again. Kevan didn't want to go back and when we got back was still adamant that he'd not missed out on the trip. |
