At the beginning of Feb, an older neighbour who lives at the bottom of the street told me that she was going on holiday for a few months with her husband. She's asked her next door neighbour (whose brother had just been diagnosed with cancer over East) to look after the house and asked if I could be deputy should the other neighbour not be around. She told me it was only a case of taking in the post and putting the bins out so, of course, I said yes !!

After 6 weeks of her being away, the other neighbour told me that she had to go visit her brother and would I step in. She then showed me the ropes - put the bins out and in, post in, feed fish twice a day and .... water the garden ! Now we haven't had any proper rain for months and the garden has retic put in but not on a timer and all to one tap so you have to put one station on for 15 minutes wait for it to finish then put another on and so forth for all 8 stations. Even worse, they have about 30 to 40 plants (such as roses) in pots :omg: so they have to be done at least once daily :omg:

The feeder she'd put in for the fish clogged all the water up so I am now doing regularly water changes. the one surviving fish (I killed the other one  ) isn't eating, or swimming and just sits at the bottom of the tank so this, added to all the other stuff I have going on is peeing me off big time !! I seem to spend more time in her house than mine and I barely had the time for that before. Still, was only for a couple of weeks ....

...... except, the other neighbour came home last week and is now avoiding me !! Fair enough she doesn't want the job back but I only signed up for 2 weeks, she agreed to the three months !! If that wasn't enough, my friend has the paper delivered every weekend and so an upside was we got to keep the paper although now the neighbour avoiding me (very deliberately I may add) took the fecking paper for herself both Sat and Sunday so now I don't even get that perk. :she:

I am so over it all, there's still another 4 weeks left and I feel like leaving the fecking lot to die.

Who on earth goes away for three months in the hottest part of the year and doesn't put their garden on a timed retic ???????????????

Thats outrageous, I think you and the neighbour need to get together and see the owner when she gets back, and let her know what a major inconvenience it was for you.

Maybe even add up all the hours you have worked there and give her an invoice

Tell the other neighbour that you are going away and she'll need to resume duties.

I would if I flipping had the chance. I have no way of contacting her - not answering the door, going out when I get near etc. I don't blame her in a way but I have a hubby and two kids and she's on her own and right slap bang next door so it is a bit easier for her.

Blimey that is taking the peess abit. Does it really need doing daily or can you get away with every 2 days? What about putting a note through the other neighbours door asking if they can do every other day with you?

NO bloody wonder the fish is dead feeding it twice a day.

Personally I'd do as asked..... put out the bins and take in the post, anything else is taking the peess.

Put the pots in the fish tank - self watering ;) let the other fish die then you don't have to bother with that either. Stop doing anything other than taking in the mail. Why do the bins need taking out? What bugger is filling them up for them to need emptying ??????

Exactly what I would do. Also ring the owner and tell her the original housesitter is back and you have passed the keys back to her.

found out today that she's told the houseowner we're doing it until she gets back :omg: and she's also taken the bin to fill up too !! She'd better put the bin out herself this week cos if she leaves it for me it will be left permanently !

You could always just move the entire family into thier house and say it was the only way you could manage everything, I'd put money on her not asking you again!

believe me, I will be putting her straight on the amount of work involved and, next time to ask someone else. If her neighbour had been that honest in the first place we wouldn't be in this mess. They should have got a house sitter.

think they're only goldfish, but fancy ones at that. The one left just sits at the bottom of the tank and doesn't move. I've stopped doing the water change as too much is bad but it hasn't eaten for weeks ... or moved :S

when I got there today the fish was actually swimming around. I put some food in and it swam around the top of the tank with it's mouth permanently open. To be honest it looks blind as it couldn't see the food at all just kept it's mouth open in the hope some would go in ! Fingers corssed it's still alive tomorrow which is more that I can say for the plants as I don't think Pauls going to bother watering any more :nosepicker:

well I have decided the fish is blind and only swims for an hour a day so I have to get there at a specific time and aim food for it's mouth

However ...... neighbour is coming home this week :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited:

When she emailed me to tell me, I did send a reply back along the lines of 'good, cos I don't think much would be alive if you stayed away much longer'

Needless to say I will not be agreeing again :nono:
