http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,24625619-421,00.html It looks like I may have to go back to buying bottles as my favourite makes are thinking of stopping producing boxed wines  . Nicky |

Well there is still a market for it according to the article, albeit smaller. So whoever sticks around after Fosters have bailed out will cream it. Personally I go for a cask of red because I can only drink small amounts at a time and it keeps better and being a red it doesn't have to take up room in the fridge like a white or rose would in a cask. It works out much more economical to buy 4 litres of Hardy's Merlot in the cask for $18.99 than 5 bottles at $6 or so each and I can't taste any difference. Given that, it's probably more to do with what will make the most profit rather than what the market really wants. Clearly there is still some demand for it as I am seeing so many more boxed varieties now. What did they base the stats on? Real sales or some "survey" of 500 snobby people who would state what they aspired to do rather than what they actually do. Keep buying them and see what happens. |
