my computer is riddled with a virus at home. i have downloaded antivirus, but its not working. and whatever is in the pc wont let me update my avg!
wont let me on to the homepage either.
if anyone has any ideas they would be welcome :dunno:
My daughters computer had something like that a few months back, I did try to fix it as I am "highly experienced" with computers (as everyone says).......

I ended up buying a new computer, and filing the old one in the spare room, until I feel like trying again to sort out the absolute mess that I created of it.

Now, do you want a hand with yours .... ?

or, have a look at http://www.avast.com/eng/technical_support.html

Yeah I was one of the lucky contacts on Bebo who got it passed on from you. :nah:

I got rid of it using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

oh, and try pcpitstop - the guys on there are excellent at sorting problems out - when ihad a virus a cuple of years ago they sorted me out no problems

I have been woken up by the annoying new neighbours across the road whose kids like to play out on the street at 7am! Grrrrr. So tomorrow we are going to get up early, wheel the bird cage out to the front lawn and give him a shower! and I hope Ronnie squeels like a pig!

I got sent that twice from facebook too Soapy - I knew it wasn't from you so just deleted it. I've never had any problems with facebook before though and use it a lot .

I could strangle the 'people' who make these things up and send them out.

Soapy and Catgirl I had terrible problems with this site - once I changed to Firefox - no more problems.

And Soapy I had problems with AVG once it upgraded to version 8 or whatever. It really got on my nerves constantly barging in and interfering and not having so much control over when it did things and it slowed everything down. I lurked on a few forums about free antiviruses and decided it wasn't just me - others were panning the new version too and offloading it and switching to Avast. I've now done that and everything is much better - so you might like to try that.

Luv as always

Oh yes and it said something about I'd got a trojan horse or something - well nothing showed up when avast did a scan after I'd uninstalled avg and installed avast.

To get rid of it switch off system restore. Restart the computer in "Safe Mode, you will need to kepp pressing F8 while it is starting up.
Once in safe mode run every Anti virus & anti spyware you have.
Start up again in normal mode, run anti virus again then switch system restore back on.

I use Avast aswell.

It tells me at times that something tried to get in, but I tell it to delete anything suspicious.

soapy, try trojanhunter ... i use it and its really good - if a trojan tries to infect your system it will quaranteen it straight away and remove it.
have a look on microsofts site about meredrop - its a pain cos its aimed at microsoft software ... but they have a virus remover that might help too.

Meredrop is also known as:

[Kaspersky]Hoax.Win32.Agent.b;
[Other]ErrorSafe,Trojan:Win32/Meredrop
Avast is reporting Win32:Trojan (Other) and
Defender is reporting Trojan:Win32/Meredrop.

I have found some info at:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=36663.0

It is a relativley new virus:
Quote:

July 21, 2008, 06:47:05 PM it's a known issue.. we're waiting for the file to be analysed"

From that forum I gather that avast will clear it, as long as no other anti virus programs have been installed on the system.

You can download the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool at:
