:she: It's taken me ages to wait for this to open. 1) Please can someone give me exact step by step directions as to how to become anonymous. Go to Preferences and update profile is like asking where the beans are and someone waving an arm vaguely in the air going oh aisle 12 or 13 somewhere. No offence Sue but I've really tried hard with this new set-up and I've spent ages. 2)I logged right out then I ran crap cleaner and put the cookie for this board in the safe/save section and got rid of the invision one. 3) I logged back in and I can't become anonymous. The pages aren't loading any more quickly since I unticked avatars and show pictures per ABCD's advice and I don't like not seeing you all and the smilies so I ticked them back in. It's taking no longer to have to wait for the pages to load that way. 4) Sometimes when it's FINALLY loaded it says Done but with Errors on Page. Sometimes it just says Done. I'm Done In. 5) ABCD asked what my internet speed was. I replied is 10 Mbps. Can anyone advise as to whether this is good, bad or indifferent? I'm starting to feel indifferent. :( 6) It helpfully tells me in the bottom LH corner things like 56 items (or images or something) downloading. I frequently see: Downloading pic http//chat.parachat.com/images/pc.gif (this one stays there for a long time) Also I see what looks like I.P. addresses for example: Downloading blah di blah 209.85122.83/static/i/p_edit.png 7)After a good 1-2 minutes it will finally respond to a mouse click by which time it is too late because I have starved half to death and eaten the mouse. And now I'm going to wash it down with a nice glass of red wine    |

I've been looking at various things, and so far succeeded in stuffing up one thing !! You should be able to get the anonymous login bit again, by going to: Preferences - Update profile - Board Settings then untick "Show my name on the users online list:" Do not panic, no-one is going mad. I accidentaly removed the option on Sunday !! oops :flowers: --- 10Mbps is a good enough speed, so it isn't the speed that is causing your problem. -- I have now removed para chat, as it no longer works anyway, since the change. If you see that again, please let me know. -- These two bits are a worry:

An easy way to get to it may be: for Snappy http://s3.zetaboards.com/Snappy/home/?c=4 or for Topcat3 http://s3.zetaboards.com/TopCat3/home/?c=4 It won't allow me to get to your section using that, but it does when I use my user name in that link. ----------- Normal way is: You click on "Preferences" on the top menus bar Then it shows 3 options: - Change Avatar - Change Signature - Update profile Select the 3rd - Update profile That then gives you 2 columns: 1 - Board Controls 2 - Profile Options Under each of these are 5 or 6 other options. You need to select Board Settings which is the 1st option under Board Controls you should then see the following options: - Change Time Zone - Theme Settings - Show my name on the users online list: - Board Language + more Hopefully it will be there. I have noticed that there are TWO different "update profile menu options"

Do you have problems on any other sites ? Can you just visit this one quickly and tell me if similar problems happen: http://support.zetaboards.com/index/ Hi ABCD thank you for your assistance. I visited support.zetaboards and similar things happened. Maybe not quite as slow but same old same old. The only other site that I ever have a problem with is ANZ internet banking. They know about it and are trying to fix it as other customers have reported problems - sometimes it just "hangs" with the green filler indicator at the bottom stuck part way for so long you time out mid-transaction grrrr! Other banking websites give me no problem at all. The Commsec website for example has loads of little buttons and pictures and things all over but I can get from page to page in an instant. Mind you that would have to perform well can you imagine if it timed out while you were placing a trade in these volatile markets - ha ha. I appreciate all your attempts to locate the problem - I'm having a sense of "why me" when everyone else on here seems to have no problem and are thoroughly enjoying themselves  |

Tomorrow is now today, therefore I start to worry again. Topcat, you aren't using Vista are you ? Not that I know it would cause problems, but I've been told not to touch it even with a barge pole. Sometimes computers do just stuff up! Mine did a few weeks back, and I ended up putting a new hard drive in, and re-installing windows XP, but keeping all my data on the old HD, which I have as a second drive. However, if you do that, ensure that the first hard drive is NOT connected while you install windows, otherwise it can pull your old problems in. Only re-connect after windows is installed. |

I'm not using Vista ABCD And I don't want to buy a new hard drive. I'm thinking I might take it in for a general look-over and tweak (do they need this, like cars?) But really I've had so much expense lately with car service and repairs and water heater and washing machine both needing replacement I can't do any more until after Christmas. |

I tend to do a back up - easy job now that I have an external hard drive cost about $140 and plugs in using a USB point ;) Then put in the windows disk and it asks you if you want to reformat everything...go for that and once you go through the prompts and everything is up and running you can then put on what other software you want such as word etc. Once all that is done my computer works like a dream machine as it gets clogged up with so much crap after a while and no clearing cookies, deleting history can ever seem to get it back to that point. |

It is good to be scared. I've done it before and lost some important things !!! That's why I now do it on a new drive, or as Snappy does, use an external drive to backup everything. But, that's only OK if you have the spare equipment. It does sound like something on your computer is slowing things down. |
