I've not heard of those, such as are in UK, advertised here, however I see no reason why you couldn't just book up a week's worth of lessons to be held consecutively, thereby ending up with the same effect.

There's a list of recommended driving schools here - RACQ's website.

The hubby is doing his lessons at the moment. Here in NSW a learner has to have 50 hrs of driving experience before they can sit the driving test. It doenst have to be 50hrs with an instructor, most people split it between parent and instructor. I think if you are under a certain age you cant sit the test for a 6 months after getting your Ls either. So no quick fix unfortunately.

Once you have passed your test you also have 3 years on a Provisional license. One of those on red Ps and 2 on green with a theory test to graduate to the next level.

Its quite a rigourous testing procedure, and the idea is to make people better drivers. It doesnt always work though because there are some shocking drivers out there with and without Ps

The procedure is something like this

1. Sit test for Learners (Ls), theory.
2. Complete 50 hrs of driving, including a certain number of hours in wet and night driving. This may be raised to 120 hrs soonish.
3. Physical driving test. If you pass you go on to a Provisional license (Ps)
4. 1 year on red Ps, sit test (theory) to graduate to green Ps.
5. 2 years on green Ps, sit test (theory) to graduate to full license.
6. Once on full license, learn to drive like a prick, drink as much as you like and be an inconsiderate hoon

Drivers on Ps dont have to be supervised by fully licensed drivers. P platers cannot teach others to drive and they have a blood alcohol limit of 0. I have heard talk about passenger resrictions for P plates coming in soonish.

Wow, AB, not sure if it's like that in Queensland too now, but they've certainly clamped down A LOT since I got my licences!

Bloody good thing too, I say, it might reduce the number of shocking drivers to whom you refer - I'm sure most of them must be from the old system. :irked:

Good luck to MrAB with his lessons and test/s.

I don't think QLD is as tight as Sydney yet but it is heading that way.

Thank you for your time explaning this isssue.

As we live in Florida, my son could of got a license here but I was too frightend to let him as the drivers over here are really bad and thought he was to young, but now we are moving the Australia he does nothing but talk about driving.

Thanks
