Thank you :flowers:

It was not a great day. I was expecting the worse but hoping it would not be too bad. It is a small public hospital and nothing wrong with the neonatal unit, its just me. I had got used to working agency and having great money and freedom to work when I want. Now I feel tied to rosters and dont think I will cope very well. Anyway on two more early shifts this week and then 3 nights a week from next week (if I last that long)

I was supposed to be on orientation today, but I just got given a pile of forms to fill in and told to go to security to get my id (but not during working hours) and did not even have a time sheet to fill in to get paid. I have not been asked for my taxfile number, bank details, super or anything, thats why I know it is not going to be a good place to work. Phoned payroll dept and was told I need to get a number from my manager, but guess what - she is away for rest of week. She actually gave me the forms to fill in this morning when I arrived, shame she did not think about my payroll number

O well, things can only get better

That's not a good start, I hope it isn't a sign of what is to come and that things do get better for you :thumb:

If they can't get it right for their staff God help their patients. Ah the public health system. Understand it's crap in QLD. A nice legacy from Mr Beattie.

Well, nothing's forever, if it doesn't work out for you look for something else.

(Says she who was so pi**ed off and exhausted she took a sickie today and left them to get on with it).

Good luck Mel, things can only get better from here.

Today was even worse, seven very sick babies and two staff!!!!

I was so busy and stressed, no breaks, nothing to drink all day and finished late as the staff who came on in the afternoon, only one was qualified and had a fit when she saw the state of the unit and decided she could not work with someone unqualified - quite right too. So she marched out to complain to a manager (who of course were nowhere to be seen) and me and other nurse were left on the ward when we should have been going home.

The place is full of stupid rules that dont make any sense and normally I just go with the flow, but having to deal with it day after day will get to me. I am contemplating handing in my notice and going back to agency work.

The job has just gone from bad to worse, so after three weeks I have decided to leave.

Today I had an interview and got offered another job at the Mater Mothers Hospital in South Brisbane. They will allow me to work two twelve hour shifts per week, mainly nights which is what I want, so I will have the same hours per week but only work two days or nights and not three, so more time off  They will also sponsor me to do a postgrad certificate in Neonatal Intensive Care (which is something I wanted to do in Melbourne, but could not afford to as it costs $8000), and plus they will pay me for twelve study days per year. I got shown around the unit and it had good vibes and reminded me of Monash Hosp in Melbourne, where I used to work, so fingers crossed it will all work out.

The only disadvantage is its a lot further away from home, probably a 45 min drive, but I still think it will be a better place to work.

Now I have to work up the courage to hand my notice in to the other place on Monday morning and that is going to be very embarrassing :blushing:

Good luck with the new job Mel, nothing worse than being stuck in a job you don't enjoy. It really wears you down.

When you hand your notice in just tell them you have wanted to do this course for a while & you really couldn't turn down the opportunity of being sponsored to do it.

Thanks Bordy, that is what I am going to do but I know they will probably ask why I did not apply for that before I started working for them.

Anyway it will all be over soon and I can get on and hopefully enjoy new job.

Mel x

If it were me, I 'd tell them straight the bad points of the job but in a non critical way so it gives them a chance to put it right.

Good luck with the new job anyway, hope it all works out for you :flowers:

It may be a longer drive but you do it less often so in fact it works out no longer :)

I'd probably think that if the hospital is that cruddy then they will be used to people handing their notice in so soon after starting. Don't worry about it, think of yourself first and that way you will be able to do a far better job if you are happy where you are anyway.

Best of luck :flowers:

Good luck Mel  It is a shame about the other job but as Bordy said you shouldn't put up with a job that you don't enjoy as we are after all a long time working throughout our lives.

Don't give it a moment's thought and don't waste your energy.

The new opportunity sounds fantastic.

Look at it this way, it's given you three weeks' pay while this other opportunity was waiting to come to fruition. You could have been unemployed.

Nothing you say in a situation like this will make any difference - as someone else said (Anne?) - they are probably used to this happening. Sad for the patients but it isn't worth a second thought. Just get out and put it behind you.

Very best of luck Mel, I think its fantastic for you, really pleased.

I couldn't think of anyhting worse that working in an unhappy and unsafe environment..... you know what it's like with agency you walk away and don't agree to go back there. With a permentant position you have to get it right and your new propective employer doesn't seem to have a problem with you moving on so quickly. Hand in you notice and look forward. :flowers:
