i was really sad to hear about this, and last week we commented that there had been no further mention in the uk press about him; his and his son's funeral was last week and it got about half an inch of column space somewhere in the middle of the sun :(

so sad ...

Thats a bit harsh isn't it.......

He was a very highly regarded player here in WA and ok he no longer plays but that hardly makes him a has been, he was still heavily involved with the AFL and was a very popular tv presenter. I would imagine the tribute at telethon was due to his contribution to telethon in the past.

Looks like his mate Ben Cousins career is over, again due to drugs.

word is he was clean till mainy's death, was always a worry that it would knock him for 6. He'll be shown the door now and westcoast will be hauled over the coals for something they have no control over.

I have a friend who through work encounters many people with drug problems, she told me today that sfter seeing the effect and change it has on these people she has every sympathy for him, like us all she is disapointed for him but it was interesting to hear her sympathy for him based on her experiences.

They do have control over it... they should never have let him play for them again after the last time.

Sorry, I do not have any sympathy, these people are role models for our kids and what message are they sending?

I remember the uproar when David Beckham got a red card all those years ago and everyone saying what a terrible role model he was - and all he did was react in the heat of the moment rather than making the conscious decision to go out, buy drugs and then take them.

The AFL needs to seriously clean up its act (let's face it, it's not just the Eagles we're talking about here...) and send a no tolerance message about drugs.

JMHO.

Sorry, will get off my soapbox now... :blushing: :blushing:
