The Internet had never been invented. Well I wouldn't be Flynns Godfather, I wouldn't be going to meet Bix, Soapy & Sasha and maybe PR in a couple of weeks. I'd be writing a lot of letters back to family in Scotland. Quite a few very close friends I would never have met. My wife wouldn't get her hair cut at Hevs place or do lunches with Melibeam. Doesn't bare thinking about really. |

I'd be a good mum instead of a "go and help yourself from the pantry" kind of mum who can't drag herself away from the computer. |

I'd still be here, cos we came out way before the Internet was invented. I'm sure it could've made it easier for my folks though, if it had been around. Given no Internet, like Lynn, I'd be a much better doer of 'real' things instead of sitting here tweaking forums, yarping online or playing stupid games all the time! :blushing: However, I agree with you, Bordy; I'd never have met so many truly lovely people, including my other 'alf! |

Me too probably, I wouldnt have known Sasha and so when we failed TRA would never have known about our agent etc etc etc Plus webcam is SUCH a great thing, it really makes it easier Plus I'd never have all the friends I have now as most of them down here I've met via internet, two of which we stayed with when we first arrived which was fab Hmmmmmm, makes you think..... cant imagine how tough it must have been for the £10 poms coming over and not knowing anything / anyone and having limited contact with friends and family in the UK..... :S |

Paul and I split up when the kids were 1 and 3. I saved up every single penny and bought myself a cheap pc as I had no sitters and no mates with kids so was stuck in day and night. I tell you, it was a Godsend, especially over Christmas and New Year when I was all on my tod and everyone was out celebrating. It was so depressing but I found the Gingerbread forum pretty quickly and then never felt alone again - even at all hours of the night/morning and whatever state I was in someone was always there. I love pc's  |

I did computer studies at school, when you still need a tape thingy. Then never used one till i was married and living in Germany the first time round. I learned how to email (only my freinds who had computers) then while i was pregnant with my first my OH was going on about the internet . i did a course at college so i would know the basics . Once i had the internet i was able to keep in touch with family and friends all over the country. When my OH was in the Gulf war in 2003 my son was able to email him a bluey from school and was able to tell him what he was learning. Its only the past 2 years that ive have really go into the internet and i never knew forums existed till last year. Before then i sat at home on my own not having any conversations with any one from one month to the next . I was very lonley and became depressed. So thanks to the net ive got a social circle again. My house is not as tidy as it used to be . But i am happier. Ive also been able to correspond with rellies in oz who i never knew existed till recently. Mandy |

One evening I started surfing the net and looking at all things New Zealand. One thing led to another and eventually we ended up in Aus. Never say never I guess but I'm pretty convinced without the internet the chances of us leaving Cornwall let alone emigrating were remote to say the least. It brought a world to our lives that was more personal than a TV.....here was a medium for delivering information on demand and far easier to access than books. Of course it also has the most addictive trait of being "live". A returning immigrant gave me the BE website details back in 2004 and up to that point I had no idea what a forum was. And what is it but a reflection of life itself but on a broader and grander scale. In a nutshell the internet means "I have seen the light". It has given me easy access to information and communication and and has brought me friendships that I truly value. Thank fook it's here. |

Actually when I think about it I wouldn't be here either without the internet. I was made redundant in 1999 & was chatting to a "friend" in Melbourne. She said well if your not working why not come over here for a couple of weeks. Thats exactly what I did & stayed with that family for two weeks & saw this whole new world I had never thought of before. As soon as I got back home I convinced my wife we could have a better life & being a nurse she applied & within 7 months we were living in Australia. Never regretted it for one moment. Thanks to the guy who inventented the internet. |

I have been trying to remember when I first started using the internet and I think it must have been when I was doing my nurse training in 1991. I used to research stuff in the library for assignments etc, but I cant remember if it was the internet I was using or just the library database. I was also pregnant with first child at this time and definitely did not have a pc at home. Must be because I was pregnant that I cant remember. I think it was about 1998 when we got the internet at home and I loved it then and still do
 I cant imagine life without the internet  |

I think we would of been here but it would of been such a harder struggle plus I've met so many lovely people along the way
:D My Dad has always been Mr Gadget and as a kid I can remember when everyone else had the new ZX Spectrums my Dad got us the Atari as it was a better computer. I wrote my first computer programme on that computer at a very young age - you know the ones where they have a dot that bounces around the place or a sound that screams somethign out every now and then. Ever since I loved computers and eventually I became the top student at college at programming only to give up Uni for Roy and marriage....somethign I now regret (the Uni bit not Roy) so for me a computer has always been a BIG part in my life. |

I am remembering some things now  We had a Commodore 64 when I was at home with my parents. We used to plug it into the the tv and type things with the keyboard. I never actually knew what we were supposed to do with it, but at 10 years old I pretended I was very cool and knew all about it  |
