as some of you may know, our recent trip to aus was partly so mal could meet up with his family from his fathers side (his father died when he was little, and his family over here refuse to talk about him) and find out about his dad. well, we had a lovely time with them, and mal got to spend some quality time with his aunty brenda (whos 80 and in a nursing home with early alzheimers) and she told him loads about his dad.

yesterday we got an email from his cousin to say she had passed away on sunday afternoon.

obvously we are all very sad (i cant stop crying and i only met her a couple of times!), and if we could find a cheap flight for tomorrow mal would have gone over for the funeral friday.

mal is being very pragmatic ... he was so glad we went over and he got to see her and spend time with her.

im a bit miffed that we were informed by email mind ..... :S

thanks sam.

i had a squizz through and the cheapest we found was about a grand ... but we just dont have enough time really; if the funeral had been next week we probably could have sorted something out, but with it being on friday there isnt really enough time.

i just spoke to him actually, and he is doing ok; he says 'at least we got to see her one last time'

At least she didn't suffer to much & sounds like she had a pretty good innings. Maybe even thought her life was complete after meeting Mal.

You don't have to be at the funeral for her to know how you cared.

As for being informed by e mail, Oh well I guess its better than not being informed at all. I'm glad you got to meet her though before she moved on to the next life. :kissed:

I echo Bordy's thoughts. Very sorry to hear your sad news, Sue, but thank goodness you both came over when you did. Keep the memories precious, have a good bawl and come back to meet up with the rest of the family as soon as you can.

We're here for you, luvvie, if you need us. Please give Mal a  from me too.

That is sad news Sue, but I'm delighted that Mal was able to find out some stuff about his dad first. Imagine if she'd gone just before you arrived. She probably felt as if she had some kind of closure by being able to tell Mal what he needed to know. Perhaps she had just been hanging around long enough to make the message was delivered.

Sorry to hear your news Sue - I don`t think it matters how often you`ve met someone, if there is that connection and you click with them, it will always make a lasting impression.

i bet hes so glad he went when he did, or he would never have know all the things she told him about his dad
getting an email isnt so bad sue, not being told is bad mate.
i know its a sad time, but tell mal not to think like that and to thank his lucky stars he got that time with her :)

i think that is why mal isnt too upset to be honest soapy - he was so happy to have been able to spend time with her that he has had some closure on his past, and all the 'what ifs' have been answered; he's obviously very saddened by her death, but he had taken a lot of comfort from our visit.

funny how life goes, innit

i feel much better now ... we have sorted out cards and stuff - they dont want any flowers - and mal is fairly happy to not go ... like he says, he can pop and say goodbye when we go over again.

thanks again for all your lovely messages xxxxx

Sue

I'm sorry to hear the news of Mals aunts passing, but how beautiful that you were able to meet her and that Mal could get that all important information he needed, perhaps it was some kind of closure for her too. I bet she is up there now telling Mals Dad what a great family his son has and how proud she was to meet them.
