Perth has had a health alert issued after 3 children died last week from flu symtoms and parents have been warned if your child has a fever and listlessness not to give panadol and see how they are in a few hours but to get immediate medical help as it kills in under 24 hours...... very scary...... so.....

This morning Matt and Dom had surf school, Indie is running around the beach for a couple of hours having a whale of a time with my friends son, then just as we are leaving he became really whingy, he fell asleep on the way home (very unusual) then when i went to get himout of the car he was roasting, i got him inside and he was just lying flaked out on the sofa, his temp was over 39. this all happened in under 30 mins. so i called the help line and was told to take him to my gp, did that and he called the hospital to check if they wanted us in or not... they did... so we spent the next couple of hours at PMH childrens hospital getting him checked out and aparantly he is fine. we've now doped him with panadol and he's sleeping. The doc said the fact he has a runny nose means it's not what the other kids have had so isn't something to worry about. I'm not usually a neurotic mother but this bug, whatever it is, seems really nasty and there are 3 sets of parents out there who did what i would normally have done, given panadol and kept an eye on them, now they have lost their kids.

I think i'll be sleeping on Indies bedroom floor tonight and John and I are both booked in for flu jabs tomorrow

I always think the worst when Harry is sick, dont know why, just do. He has a rocking chair in his room and I have lost count of the amount of nights Dan or I have slept on it.

He was unwell a couple of weeks ago, and normally he just carries on (he's a little trooper) but this time he was sleepy, hot, whingy and just not himself. I took him to the docs and it turned out it was just an ear infection, but my head was running a mile a minute thinking about everything that could be wrong with him.

Glad its nothing too serious Lynn and I hope he is better soon. Spoil him rotten

For you :flowers:

Big hugs for scrummy yummy Indie

I think the best advise I could ever give is just to follow your maternal gut instinct. When Alex contracted meningococcal septicaemia at 13months old my I just *knew* straight away that he was seriously ill. As a mother, YOU know your kids, follow your heart and don't be put off by doctors.

OMG Lynn I'm so glad he is ok...well I knwo he is still ill but not what the other children had. I even thought as I read your thread in the serious section about how worried you must be with your brood of youngsters.

Take care of them all and yourself

Thanks Guys.

He's fine, temp normal today and he was just a bit whingy, i made him stay home with Dad while i took the boys to surfing and he wasn't happy about it so i recon he's pretty much back to normal

John and I both had our flu jabs today, I saw our usual Doc not the one i saw yesterday, he told me they had seen loads of kids over the last few days but only one of them had seemed sick and that was Indie and that the doc we saw yesterday was very concerned about him :o it kind of makes me realise how lucky we were that he only had a bug of some sort and not whatever it is thats going about. He's getting loads of extra hugs today, infact they all are.

I don't believe it.

After a full day, morning on the beach while the boys surfed, then on to macas for lunch and a play then topped it off with a game of tenpin bowling...... the little so and so is off to bed with a raging temp again...... his nose is still running so i guess we don't have to worry about the flu this time, i just hate it when he's lying there in my arms boiling hot saying he feels cold :(
