If you went back to blighty?

We all moan about stuff we are missing from there. What would you miss from here?

My home near the sea in a beautiful little town.

My job, for the first time ever I have a job I like, colleagues I like and an enviromnent I like. Its hard to get every aspect of your worklife perfect, and at the moment I do.

My sons daycare centre. He has developed so much since going there. They are very proactive with the kids and will help you with development issues, rather than just tell you and leave it to you to deal with.

My friends. I am making friends that I want to spend time with, rather than all the mates you have back home that you have known forever and spend time with out of a feeling of obligation. I miss my best mate in the Uk like crazy, but the friends I am making here are great.

These are all things I could still have in the UK, but I would miss them if I wasnt here.

Is this a serious question Hevs, are you thinking of making the move back?

I'd miss family time - OH works far less hours here so we spend a lot more time together. I'd also miss the sun, gardens which flower all year around, the fab education my kids are getting, the fact that I don't have to work and where I live as it's 5 mins to the beach where I walk the dog most days. :D

I'd miss the morning cookaburra chorus.
The haunting nightime call of the kurlew.
The warmth of the sun.
The warmth of the rain.
The breathtaking rainforest.
The wide expansive canefields.
The rivers, lakes and streams.
The palm fringed beaches.
The tropical Isles.
The fact we can be in peaceful surroundings yet within a few minutes can be in the hubble bubble of the city.
The fact we rarely have to cancel plans due to the weather.
Dining outdoors.
The classless society.
The space, the space and the space.

I would miss the Curlews the most as I love those birds and our friendly cassowary that comes around. I love seeing the wallabies hopping about in the late afternoon sun and the birds that I would normally only see in a cage.

I would miss looking out on to the most breath taking views every day and the ocean with empty beaches.

The warmth both day, night, rain or shine.

My job as I love it along with the people that are there (apart from the witch but in a weird way I would even miss her). The school where my kids go.

My fab new house.

Cheap meat and stubbie coolers.

Drunken bums that all seem to be very musical and are good friends to us.

The quietness and the vastness (is there such a word??) of it all.

Most of all how I have changed, I feel more confident when meeting people and chatting to people now than ever before and I would miss that feeling. Also I find the Aussies are not shy of giving you a compliment which I would miss as we all need our ego stroked every now and then.

I suppose I can't really join in here.....

..... but all your comments have reminded me of so much that I missed when we came back from our trip.

Funnily enough when we came home one of the first things I noticed was the absence of the aromatic air, even the aussie grass had it's own distinctive aroma in Queensland. I also remember driving back from the Emundi Markets one day and seeing a strange looking tree with peach and white blossoms all one one side of the tree. As we got closer I suddenly realised it was a whole flock of Parrots (don't ask me to ID them but I think you'll probably get my drift), just then they all took off, it was an image I will never forget.

I wish I had a camera today when driving home as there must have been about 40 odd eagles swirling around in the sky over a field, it was amazing to see.

well we have just about got over the jetlag, but the culture shock we are suffering is still a bit overwhelming at times :(

we felt very much at home in australia (even mal, who used to look at me as if i was barmy when i used to say that) and he too feels the culture shock of returning to the uk - he says he sometimes feels like a foreigner in our own home town.

i miss australia and its 'autralian-ness' ... :upset: :upset:
