Woo Hoo :dance2: :ecstatic: I am already really excited. My brother is coming over with his wife and 2 kids arriving 20 October until 19 November. They will be here for the Adelaide Xmas Pageant which the kids will love.

Anyway, my sister-in-law asked if I knew anyone that I could borrow a pram to push a 5 year old around in - I don't really. I found a website called www.hireforbaby.com.au which looks pretty good but I just wandered if I need to be aware of any laws about driving and kids. Do they need to hire a car seat? What about toys? Can they be hired or shall I just ask friends to borrow theirs?

Oooh its sooo exciting. :)

Well that's really exciting, something to look forward to. :ecstatic:

I'm pretty sure there are regulations about driving with kids as passengers and I'm certain the parents on here will know more than I, but as a suggestion ask at your local RTA or police station or have a look at RTA websites. It is always the driver's responsibility to ensure that passengers are safely and lawfully strapped in - it's your license that is at stake.

Toys - well try your local library. Some of them have toys for hire. You could also look at your local Sally Army shop and Vinnies, they often have 2nd hand toys for sale cheaply and you could wrap them up and put them under some eucalypt brances in a tall floor vase with the tiny "grab hold" koalas you can buy dotted about in the branches, for an exciting welcome just like Christmas for the kiddiwinks.

Make sure you don't run yourself ragged in the lead-up and leave some energy to enjoy the visit!

A 5 year old will be fine in a booster seat in the car. If they are already hiring a car, the hire company may supply it. If not, booster seats are dirt cheap in kmart, or ask your friends what they can lend you. They are only secured with a seat belt and are light as a feather.

As for the pushchair, if they still have one in the UK they can bring it with them. The airline will check it in when they board the plane and they should get it back as soon as they get off. Does a 5yr old really need a pushchair though?

I wouldnt worry too much about the toys. A kid cant take all their toys on holiday, so what different about visiting Auntie Michelle. There are playgrounds everywhere and Australia is one of the most child friendly countries I have been too. The kid wont get bored.

How fantastic for you Michelle. Sorry I can't help you on the other bits o and bobs if only I was closer as I have a booster seat you could of borrowed and plenty of toys. (I'll ask on the AB site for you if you want me to ;) )

Xara is 6 and hasn't really needed a seat for a while so long as she can sit comfortably with the seat belt not around her neck in a danergous fashion I think it is safe. I wouldn't bother with a pram though as most 5 year olds have ambundance of energy and can run most of us ragged
