for Luke - well I've tried so hard to get him into a sport of some kind and its been like dragging a horse to water!! :( I know he's never been really into sport at all, but once he gets into something he does enjoy it - well at his last school in England he did enjoy cricket

Anyway a friend said to bring him down to the footy training on thursday - hahahahahaha you're having a laugh - Luke thinks you need to do drink and drugs to play that game! Well he never went, but on Weds he did some footy training at school and raved about it (at long last), he said its easier than i thought it would be - he went on and on. Sooooooooooo he's going when he gets back from camp - he did roll his eyes a bit but most of his mates go and he needs something to focus on I feel - other than school and bloody playstation.

:crossfingers:

Do any of your children play footy - do they enjoy it ?

Is that the english football or Oz ? Cos, if it's the english one how has he managed to get to 12 without ever playing it ?!

Tallulah was a but like that with dancing but I made her go because she was a couch potato, she's really good at it too and when she saw that, her confidence rose and now she loves it !

no aussie rules - the other is soccer - he had to play that at school in UK and wasn't all that keen mainly I think because half the boys at his school either played for the school or a local team and were a darn sight better at it than he was - poor thing - he has never really enjoyed it - likes to watch it though.

It is the cool kids that play footie around here

We needed to find something to keep Mia occupied hence the guide thing and she loves it. Then Xara wanted to join so I had to go along and got sucked into becoming a leader only for Xara to then change her mind  Mia on the other hand told me the other day "Guides is my life Mum!" bless her, she seriously needs to get out more

ahhh bless - I'm going to be more positive - i think ive been a big negative lately and not really pushed them too much but they can't go on like this neither can I - so the two of them can do it. It seems to be a big social thing down at the local club too - it will do me good too.

Great attitude CG  You'll probably feel like a bit of a billynomates on the touch line to start off with, but just push yourself at them and you'll be fine.

Nearly all the friends that we miss from England are really good friends that we made through Alex's soccer club, yet he joined the club on his own not with a friends and we knew no-one to start with. Now we are busy making new friends here from his new soccer club. I know you are talking footy, not soccer, but it has the same importance. When we arrived in Oz, getting Alex into a team was priority and when he started at school he just fitted in, all because they have a shared interest. Playing a sport of any sort or belonging to a club, IMO, is so important, not just because of the physical aspect but because of the social aspect too.

I really hope they both enjoy their footy and that it helps you find more friends too

It's feels so good when they get into something they enjoy.

Toby has just discovered he's good at Cricket and will be starting at a local club in a couple of weeks. Steph is not keen on sport but has discovered her voice and is now rehersing for a school end of year musical.

Anything that gets them mixing is a bonus!

Yep it is good for them, Lukes not very sport - neither am I to be honest but I just want him to do something and Jordan. I know doing a sport/drama/dance is good for their confidence and Luke really needs that, trouble is he sees everyone as "being better" than himself and gets put off.

I'm not fussed about being billy no mates - you have to start somewhere I guess (and anyway half their school seems to be a member of the footy club so I should know someone down there!!!!!)

Steph has always had good voice it just took her ages to realise. After much nagging she joined the choir and loads of the girls kept asking her to sing for them, now she's going to be doing Jason and the Argonauts, she doesn't do a solo but I'm just glad she wants to do it! She used to be really self concious, she got offered to part of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz a couple of years ago but opted to be a rabbit so she could hide in the costume and be less conspicuous :hide:

Toby's a great dancer and was recently in a county dance festival (just got the DVD and am resisting showing everyone -proud mum syndrome :blushing: ) I wanted him to do a sport because sometimes boys can get a hard time when thy are good at dance and drama.

Hope it all goes well when they start.

ahh bless - but that's good to get a part. I pushed Luke a couple of years ago to join the school choir and then in his last year there he finally did it - he's got a great voice and the music teacher was beginning to despair that he'd never go in for it - we were both shocked when he finally joined - and he enjoyed it too.

You have every right to be proud of your children. :more:

CG one thing I found is volunteer to help organise things when it comes to sports or hobbies for the kids as that is a great way to get in with the crowd and it is amazing how many people you meet that way. Even if it is organising the fruit at half time but they usually look out for parents to help with the training side of things or fund-raising or just giving lifts to various matches.

I think this will do all of you some good and get in to the community type feeling. Roy tells me off for putting my hand up to most things but I know so many people here now from doing just that and it makes me feel settled when I can walk along a street and bump into so many people for a natter.

You go girl
