I know my friend up here runs a few lessons and everyone seems to love it although I have never had any rhythm for anything like that unless I'm plastered

When we went to Mandurah to watch fireworks at Christmas, there were all sorts of stalls, games and displays on the foreshore. One of them was a group of women belly dancing. Strangely enough all the men went home a bit astir after initially laughing

 My hubby says I won`t need to dance to make my belly wobble - just give it one slap and watch the waves

Well, we did live in Turkey, and yes, they all do it there.

The nightclubs have the women who do the classical dances on their own in all the traditional get-up and are really fabulous.

Even better was the dancing at parties or other get-togethers. The men start dancing and dance up to the females on the sidelines and the couples then dance together. They don't touch but it is all very sexy, especially the blokes.

I learned the basics but you need to have grown up with it!

Tie a scarf low around your hips.
Stand in front of mirror (in private).
Lift hands to head height.
Make the scarf move while everything else stays still.

You have to move your hips in a circle - it can be horizontal or vertical :ooer: The vertical one, tummy goes up, forward, back, down (or vice versa) is very challenging.

Remember - you must be graceful.

Belly-dancing classes are very popular in Sydney GJ. What city are you coming to? (I'm assuming it's a city...) There is a belly dancing class that immediately follows my tap dance class on Tuesdays. They all tie on brightly coloured scarves with jingly discs on the edge above the fringe. I've never done it, it's not really my "thing" but I know people enjoy it. You should find a class easily. Have fun!
