I'm sure some of you will remember the "issues" i had with the tax man earlier in the year.

Well, I paid what money they said I owed (even though I dispute it and still await a reply to my letter in January asking them to explain how I owed it!) and somehow there was 49p left on my account.

I asked the woman straight out "Do I have to pay this as I dont want to be chased for it" - "Oh no," was the reply "We won't bother with that, I'll zero it out now"

So then this Saturday on the webcam my dad holds up this letter from IR demanding payment of 49p or I will be taken to court..... plus a leaflet explaining what happens at magistrates court.

FFS!

So I phoned up, amazingly someone there on a Saturday, and she said they couldnt zero it out but that they wouldnt take me to court over it - even though I told her my dad had in his hand at this very moment a letter threatening to do just that!

So he has sent them a cheque for 49p and I will have to write yet another letter to the bunch of muppets.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

I know, I mean FFS must have cost them more than double that to print the letter and post it with the leaflet....

PMSL what idiots :mah: It's a bit like the old British gas sending out a letter saying that you owed them 0.00p and expecting a cheque....I can't remember who had that one in the past but it always makes me laugh as they did send a cheque for that amount

it's because it'a a fully computerised process which they can't stop. Basically as soon as the process involved a human being it would stop as they'd cancel a charge under a certain amount due to the amount it would cost for recovery.

I just wonder why they lied to me (again, three times in all now!) and said they'd cleared it off when they obviously hadnt.

Sent a complaint in, if they ever bother to reply this time.

I get so wound up about it though, so angry to the point of tears IYKWIM - wish I'd never bothered paying them anything and kept the money, would have come in handy!! But no, I do the right thing and what happens - they take the p!

I know, what a pain and a total waste of time and money - Paul once had a bill come to him for 16p - not from tax office though - can't remember who it was, the stamp cost 32p!!!!!
