Me and Flynn had a night in a lovely NHS hospital :o Joking apart, it was great.

Flynn wasn't really that well from day one and got worse. He got himself a dose of croup and bronchillitus from somewhere and his breathing became very laboured quite quickly, i thought he was gonna end up on oxygen. After a few doses of steroids and a few wrestles with an inhaler (which he yells at now when he sees it coming!) he began to pick up. We were in the hospital just short of 24 hours.

Anyway we are out now and finally over a shocking dose of jet lag.

The weather is total shit, raining and about 15 degs, bloody freezing  That said i'm loving being here, it feel like home

Everything in the shops seems really cheap and the shops seem really bright and so full of choice, however i'm a bit over shops and would love to get out and about, but the weathers SHITE!!! ( i think i mentioned that  )

Have had a great time catching up with friends, but my god, their houses seem tiny!

Funny things i had forgotten, like people have washing machines in their kitchens and tiny fridges. The showers are funny as with their pull cords to heat the water and crappy pressure. The amount of cars parked all over the roads cos the houses don't have driveways. PAYING to park. NOT paying for all of Flynns medicine cos hes a kid  The cheapness of the books!! The beautiful village churches (especially the one we got married in!) The hedges and cow parsley waving at you as you drive past. And the GREENESS of the place. I had forgotten how bloody pretty it all is really

Havn't done much yet but will keep you updated when i can get Leah off here long enough. Shes really missing her friends bless her!

Oh shit, is right! Bloomin' 'eck, Hevs, can't take you anywhere!! :P  Very happy to hear that wee Flynn's ok. Keep him cosy and warm.

I can so associate with everything you've said about living in UK. All of the things you mentioned were things I had trouble getting used to. When we'd been grocery shopping, and because I have a bad back, I used to sit on the floor in front of the fridge to cram everything into the tiny thing!

UK's not all bad at all. It is very pretty in the country areas. I just felt incredibly cramped, almost claustrophobic, there. :dunno:

Enjoy the rest of your time there, kiddo, and take care. :flowers:

Glad to hear the little guy is OK. Suppose it must just be the different germs and stuff that are around in the country (and on the plane).

Regarding your comments about the "small island" - I've looked up some facts and figures to try to explain to my sister who's coming over at Christmas how big this country is (and that a quick trip to the Flinders Ranges isn't really that feasible!).

South Australia is 4 times bigger than the entire United Kingdom.
The Population of Adelaide is only 100,000 more than Birmingham BUT in terms of population density it's 1/6 that of Birmingham.

Oh - and the max speed limit is only 110 kmh and we don't really have any motorways to speak of.

Flynn!!!!!!!! behave yourself  Sounds like Abbie, no matter where we go, she has to visit the loo within 10 minutes of arriving and I'm sure half the time she doesn't need to "go".

Pleased the trip is going well though even if the fridges are tiny - strange the things you take for granted. Hope the weather picks up, but talking to the MIL in Dorset, she was saying how dry it's been so I guess the locals won't be complaining too much.

Don't forget to come home

The recycled air on the airoplane won't have done him any good poor thing. I am glad that he is Ok again now though. I struggled with how pretty everything was when I was back there for Ian's Dad's funeral but I must say it soon passed once we got back home. We did consider what heading back to the UK would involve and decided that we could live with Wangaratta for a little longer.
Have fun.

Trying to explain the space to our friends here i say that the UK fits inside Vic. The uk has 60 million people vic has 4 million, they look a bit stunned at that :o

The only way I grasped it when I first came here was to sit down with a map of Australia and one of the UK on the same scale, cut out the map of the UK and sort of move it around over the map of Australia - my friend made me do it - My God Roger, isn't Queensland BIG???I finally discovered it fitted over VIC perfectly. There are cattle stations owned by one person in Qld that are the size of England - tell 'em that, it really gets 'em going!

Glad you are enjoying it so far, despite the hospital.

Give Flynn a stern look from me and tell him not to let it happen again while on holiday ;)

Glad the NHS served you well and that you are enjoying your visit so much! I must admit it was a shock that I had to pay for Toby's meds out in Oz. He had tablets luckily, if he had wanted syrup then it would have cost me three times as much. Eeeeek!

Hope the sun comes out for you soon Hevs,

What excitement! Even had to register!

You can keep your pick and mixes and ready meals (and washing machines in kitchens) but 3quid books!!!!!!!!

Is this a one-off special - or their Bestsellers, or how much a hardcover costs....
(or paperback?) Do tell.

Jesus Badge, my one haven, how the hell did you find me on here? :P Who said anything about ready meals

Nah, new release best seller are cheap (paperback) Hardback are around the £20 mark.

Other quirks... running up and downstairs for stuff. Pulling the light on in the bathroom.....
(not saying i like/ dislike these things, just things i had forgotten!)

Disaster 123..... Matt lost the car keys yesturday! Bless him. The hire co lady was a friggin angorous and was vile to us on the phone and she will be having a very very english moan letter sent to her boss. She said (once i asked her to repeat what she'd just told Matt cos i was gobsmacked) because YOU have lost the keys it will be £85 to replace them. The rac will come out and tow the vehicle and then you will pay a furthur 4 days car hire for the new vehicle"

"We actually don't want another vehcicle"

"but thats our policy"

"I don't have the money for another 4 days"

"well you have no choice"

Errmm actually i do! Sue me mo fo! I have checked the small print and theres nothing about lost keys!

Anyway my dear friend who i used to work with at Vauxhall is sorting it for £40 (the price of the key!)

Flynn is better today but its still raining

I thought I'd add the ready meal bit as it is a thing that comes up from time to time.
One of the things that the UK supermarkets just do very well.
:)

Don't worry, I'm on my best behaviour on s3 and s7. :P

Running up and down stairs! Can you imagine! My old dear had a thing where she placed things on the stairs - eg loo rolls. If you were heading up that way you were supposed to take that item and take it up etc. Saved running around lol.

I imagine all those things - light switches (not the loo rolls I mean) would be quite satisfying and weird.

Losing car keys - sort of thing I would do.
