What an amazing process and wonderful idea.

Quite expensive (US$3500+ for smallest)

Sapphire's ashes are in a blue ginger jar (she was a blue pt as well) with her photo above. Her collar is in with them and I look at it occasionally. The diamond is a lovely idea if you can afford it. I'm thinking for human loved ones as well, not just beloved pets.

I scattered Holly's ashes under his favourite tree in the garden of our house in the UK. He died just a few months before we moved here (probably a blessing as I'd have felt so awful if we'd brought him with us and he'd been ill all that time without us realising) and I did agonise a bit over whether to bring them with us to scatter here, but somehow it didnt seem right.

I know what you mean Sam, I have to stop now as I'll start blubbing again. I found the card our vet sent the other day in a box and I cried my eyes out for half an hour...!

Thats a lovely idea.

I know some pet insurance companies pay a lump sum when a pet dies, this would a great thing to put the money towards. I did not take this option though when I took out insurance for our two cats and dog, as my thinking then was whats the point of the money, it wont replace a loved pet. I never thought about putting it towards something like that.

You can also pay for a cremation by a pet cremation company and have a lasting memorial in their memorial garden if they have one, or do what I did and buy an ashes jar. For extra cost you can have a private cremation, as I did for Sapphire, so you know the ashes you get are truly those of your pet, otherwise they do a few together and I suppose you just have to hope they give you yours back. I felt it was worth the extra cost as I was so devastated, she was taken from us so suddenly and so young, only seven. I didn't have insurance I just had to be a bit frugal afterwards, what with the vets bills, home euthanasia etc.. :(
