Not sure why it wouldnt be feasible? We bought my car within a few days of arriving, our friends drove us round some car lots - but be aware if they're anything like WA they shut at midday on a Saturday!!! |

Sorry - can't help about Melbourne Dealers. As Bridie has said there's no problem in doing that, unless you're after a new one - in which case you may have to wait for delivery. We didn't want to rush into buying one straight away, especially as we didn't know any dealers. Ended up renting a car for a month (about $1,100 inc. the insurance) - and taking it from there. Turned out just right as our new one was ready for collection the day we had to return our hire car. |

The only thing you will find is that you will proof of ID and address to get the rego bit sorted out or at least that is what we found. We used our passports, Medicare card and banks Key Card as proof of ID, for the proof of address we used the receipt of where we were staying at the time (a caravan park) |

If you're looking for used cars and you are going to move out to the Eastern suburbs the I'd try here http://www.carcity.com.au/ There are also lots of new car dealers along Maroondah Hwy as well. |
