I have just got home from working 10 hour night shift and want to go to bed. But there is a huge spider on my bedroom ceiling :scared: I have tried to take a picture of it to post on here but its too high up and I dont want to get too close, and pic did not come out very well. I dont think its a huntsman, as it does not look too furry like the huntsman I have seen in past. Think it might be St Andrews Cross. Hubby not here and kids gone to school. Help - I want to go to bed :huntsman: |

failing any attempt to remove it, id just wallop it with something big and heavy .... just shoo it away from over your bed before you do the deed though, you dont want a carcass on yer quilt!!!! id like to add that in no way do i usually condone violence against any wee beastie ... if it were me id try and catch it with a tupperware container and chuck it outside - but when you have just done a long nightshift, needs must  find one of your other halfs shoes and say a prayer for it :D (the spider as you splat it, not your other halfs shoe  ) |

Yep that is what I have decided to do. Trouble is what if I cant find spider when I wake up, then I will be paranoid about where the bloody thing has gone to. I am too scared to try and kill it, dont need any more bad luck  |

If it has a cross on it's back it is probably a Wolf spider - not too toxic say like a Redback. Just get the vac out with the extension hose. The sound of a "thunk" as spidey get's sucked in is very satisfying  |

Well I could not get to sleep as I kept imagining it squeezing through the gap around the door, so I got up and got a broom and a large bowl. I whacked it with the broom and it fell on the floor, I covered it with the bowl, where I was going to leave it for Jason to remove when he got home. Then I started thinking it would escape from under the bowl, so I did the bravest thing ever for me
 I got piece of paper, slid it under the bown and carried the whole lot outside shaking, and dropped it out in the bushes at front of house. I felt very proud of myself. When I went to bed I kept having thoughts of spiders though, and had to check under the doona and bed a few times. :huntsman: |

My vacuum cleaner is an upright and the hose is not long enough to reach the ceiling :( But I would be worried that it could crawl back out of vacuum later :scared: |

Working in Kindy I had saw a child doing a rain dance type jig while playing with the blocks. "Spider" he was mouthing silently
:o Could not believe that a 4 year old child managed to get me to do what no-one else ever has before. I got a pot, scooped it up and put it outside
:o As a child, my mum would remove them, then newly married the OH was get rid, then I brought the kids up not to be afraid of them so that they would remove them. Alas, none of the above was around and I really could not justify moving the whole class to another room just because of a hairy monster. |

Well done Mel! I think the St Andrews are very spindly with a small body. I hate hairy big spiders. We had a huntman in the curtains the other day and when Matt vacced it it gripped on over the top of the curtain rail, the dyson got it in the end though  Then we span it round for a few mins and tipped it into the bin! Leah tells me the trick is to spray hairspray on them so they can't run off, then clobber then  |

I think maybe it was a Golden Orb, but a very big one :scared: I am too scared to clober them, what if they fell on me or made a big mess. Anyway have just been annoying Jason to surface spray all the outside again so hopefully wont have too many more inside. |

I have a nice picture of the one I walked into somewhere but I won't put it up as I hate threads where you are start to scan down and WHAM a massive spider stares back at you
 They have attractive webs but the spider has a weird looking bum (a bit like a twiglet) |

When we went up to lake Barine on the Tablelands the girls wouldn't go in the "outdoor" loo until I checked them out for spiders. There was a little one so I took a photo of it so they could see it and wouldn't be afraid. They wouldn't use the loos  I got the picture somewhere and think it was a golden orb. |

There's a biggie at Hartleys crocodile farm. They have a double door set up to the bird sanctuary and it lives on the fence between the doors. I think I've seen more Golden Orbs than any of the other big ones. Oh, but I just remembered I've seen a few Bark ones.....or was it Woof :P |

It's quite funny really cos hardly anyone notices it. You go in the first door and your eye is taken by the sign which says something like please don't disturb our spider. What spider ? Oh, that one :hide: |
