Got to day care today to be told by one of the girls that Harry has been hitting the other kids

Apparently he isnt doing it in a temper or being mean with it, which I suppose is a good thing, but hitting is hitting and I dont know quite what to do because he's never done it at home :dunno:

oh you have my sympathy..... Indie does it all the time, often if he feels he's backed into a corner and doesn't know how to say what he feels, he either hits or throws (which is a nightmare as he has an amazingly acurate throw) i've tried loads of things but nothing seems to work and i'm at my wits end and often end up in tears over it, which is no help whatsoever. I always remove him from the situation but he doesn't seem to get the hint.

sorry to be no help.

Well you can talk to him, but ultimately it is for them to sort out when it happens. No use dredging up once the deed is done. They'll need to do the talking about how other people feel if and when it happens again. Don't fret though, I'm sure it's just a blip. They all go through it, having to try out the pecking order.

Thats what I thought. He only started there 4 weeks ago. He has done so well settling in, but he was used to being at the top of the tree at his last place, so maybe he is starting to climb the tree again at the new place.

Still, its not on. I was so embarrased. The lady who told me was ever so nice about it and was very clear that he was not bullying or lashing out but it needs to be stamped out quickly. I dont want to be the mum with the horrible kid

I think Anne in her wisdom is right, they may have just let you know because you'd want to know but if it's not happening at home it's for them to deal with. I suppose you could give him a little pep talk and tell him your teachers are not impressed and have had to tell Mummy off because you've not been kind to some of the other children. Appeal to his love for you, might work? :dunno:

Mia started biting when she went to day care. She never did it at home and it was always the same little boy she bit in day care. It turned out he adored her and she was always pushing him away, in the end she just gave up and bit like mad to get out of his grip

I shouldn't laugh as she used to leave massive marks on him but luckily his mum was lovely and was very understanding.

Like Anne said it isn't something that can be dealt with later on when you pick him up as it needs to be dealt with there and then. What does the day care do when he does lash out?

Its just down to him trying to communicate i suppose. He obviously is not impressed with something and just needs to be taught to express this in a better way. He'll get there love
