My dad leaves on Wednesday and I was trying to have a tactful conversation with him about his next visit being in the school hols.

With dropping the kids off at school and picking them up again I barely get 5 hours a day to entertain him and it didn't take long to do all the close stuff !! So, we've been home quite a lot and I've had to go to meetings at school and the kids have clubs, birthday parties and friends houses etc. You could manage for a couple of weeks but, when it's a month, life has to go on, cleaning has to be done and it doesn't help too much that he has a nap every afternoon - but then he says he's bored :she:

Anyway, so we're having this conversation and he is a big footie fan (Stoke City and Mangotsfield Utd) so I presumed that he could only do Feb because of the footie, which I could understand to some extent (my wedding day was FA cup final day and he wouldn't have come if his team were in the final) but it turns out that it's the only month he can do because of his garden !!!!

WTF - Please explain to me how a tiny garden can have caused all these problems because I JUST DON'T GET IT !!!!!!!!! :dunno:

Malc will need some of your tact, he has to ask his parents that next time could they fly in and out on a weekend otherwise he loses two days of holiday just to make the trip, which is a waste as they could be better used while they are here.

yep - that's the other thing - he came in at 3.30pm and leaves at 4pm. Paul loses work and money if he picks up the kids from school but I just can't get anyone else to pick up both for me. I am very limited to who I can ask and they always seem to be busy. He didn't ask me when was the best time either.

They landed at 6.30pm and leave at 10.30pm - so of course Malc hit all the people going home on his way to pick them up and will have a late night when they go back as it takes 2 hrs to get home........

I think sometimes people forget we LIVE here, it's not a holiday for us too!

Luckily they go back easter week so we've got the whole week off, so at least he doesnt have to get up for work the next morning.

You've hit the nail on the head there.

My Mum & Dad expect me not to get a job whilst they are here. I'm feeling well enough to go back to work and we have a mortgage to pay.

My dad is also a very male chauvenist person and has been all his life hence why he got divorced 35 years ago and has been on his own ever since (not his fault though, apparently). I bite my tongue and ignore all the comments which come flying my way every second or so but I have noticed that, since he's been here, my OH has started to agree with him :she: he'd better stop soon or he'll be on his own too

Probably trying both to wind you up and to keep the peace with his FIL. Seems to be working on the first bit

I always treat my goodbyes, even if they are everyday ones, as if they will be the last time I see someone. Learnt that the hard way.

I do try to Anne and definitely do with Paul and the girls but Dad is different. Paul told me to hug him when I picked him up from the airport and, although he's never shown me any affection, I did, or at least tried, but he just turned away and I was pretty embarrassed as it was very obvious to anyone looking.

i dont really, but what have u got to lose?
ill tell you this though lassie

you have plenty to gain by it :)
he will shrug you off, but at least u will know that he knows you love him, because YOU TOLD HIM!

as i told someone else not long ago, all the shit patter u get from him is what makes him your dad. after he heads home, about 3 weeks from now u will be wanting, or hoping to hear his pish patter and be wishing he was sitting in fornt of you saying hes bored :)
now im going to stop bursting your brain about it and let u decide

So long as your conscience is clear, and you know in your own mind that you have done or said all that you want to and will have no regrets later, then that is fine. Do what is right for you honey. :kissed:

I know you are mate, but I don't know if you've noticed, but you've got rather a lot on your plate at the moment and two kids of your own at a completely different school !!

All sorted now though ta, Tallulah's off home to her new friend's house
