Right. I've bought a car. I have all the documentation. I understand I need to go to the RTA and get it all put in my name - but I also understand I need a green slip and to pay the rego. Someone explain this procedure to me please :)

Has it got rego on it or is it brand new?

I know mine had a year on it... Malc's had some and the garage I think told them his address so when it was up for renewal the paperwork came to us.

How long has the rego got left? Mine had 3 months, and that included CTP. You dont need a green slip to transfer ownership.

I didnt know who my CTP provider was when I transferred ownership, and the woman at the RTA said not to worry, as the insurer would write to me.

If the rego is due, then CTP will be aswell, contact any insurance provider and ask for a CTP green slip. The RTA will want the green slip for the annual rego. If the car is older than 3 years(I think) you will also need a pink slip, basically an MOT, contact a mechanic.

Thanks for the replies guys - all sorted now. Used NRMA in the end, since my Comprehensive policy is with them. Just need to sort the Rego on Monday.
