Just in case anyone in UK wants to clutter up their place a bit more (!) we are offering virtually everything we own in UK for sale. Furniture, appliances, kitchenware, TV, freeview boxes (x2), printer, clocks, heater, lamps, car, etc. Mostly old but in reasonable to good condition (except me!) If you're likely to be in UK for a while yet and there's something you could do with, why not ask if I've got one for sale?!! ;) *PR sits back and waits for the fun to begin! :P |

Thanks, Pen. Yep, we're crossing everything here too ... welllllll, nearly everything!! :o  We sold two large-ish items today ... our first bits to go. Isn't it just typical that the very first buyer wanted a fridge/freezer?! No freezer now and down to, what I'd call, a bar fridge. Also sold a chest of drawers. So far, so good! :thumb: |

Well done on two counts. One for the move looking up, and two for the things selling so well :) |

Well, Marco, it must've been the chest that sold it, not the drawers!  |

Sounds like bargains to be had. We have just managed to get rid of all our stuff so no interest here. Good luck and have fun! (Been there, done that, its not a nice time). |

Are you selling everything and not taking a container PR? This is what Rich would do but I'm not sure I can cope with parting with my sofa (Wedding pressie) and my Dinning room table and six chairs (French Oak and saved up for) They're the only two BIG things I would keep but I would want ten ton of books, oh and the Billy IKEA shelves that they sit on I don't think we're gunna get it all in tea cases!!!!???????? How are you selling stuff, on Ebay? :scratchhead: |

Hi Beki, Yes, we are selling everything that we can here in UK. We may well end up sending a couple of tea chests with Seven Seas but nothing else. So far I've only advertised on Stuff4Sale as you can get a free ad with one piccie there and it covers various regions of UK. However, I'm not in the same position as you regarding the emotional attachment to anything I have here. You see, 'my' stuff is still in Brisbane as that's where I'm from. I've come over to UK as I hold dual citizenship and can work here, whereas MrPR can't work in Aus. So everything we have here has either been bought by us relatively recently or given to us by his family just to set up home for the couple of years that we've been here on and off (but that's another story!) Whilst we've made ourselves comfortable, we don't have any emotional attachment to anything in particular. Before I left Brissie (the first time  ) I sold or gave away anything big (beds, white goods, etc.) and have kept my beaut, big old desk, my 'tons of books' and anything of emotional value over there - it takes up a good bit of my Mum's double garage and/or her big back deck! :bashful: ;) I've led a somewhat unconventional life in the traditional sense and so haven't accumulated some of the things which you hold dear, so now I don't face the same dilemma as you in this regard. I can understand your wanting to take those larger things with you. Whichever way you choose to go, it's not cheap; but, to me, living life where you want to (or who you want to be with, in my case) is more important than material things, so, financially, we've lost out. Good luck with your decisions ... go with comfort in your heart! :flowers: |

Thanks for the reply PR! It's hard, I'm a real hoarder at heart but I can see the sense in not taking a container full of stuff, which as you pointed out is simply material belongings, that can be replaced. Maybe a shared container will be the answer for us. Looking around, we may be able to sell a few bits, fill a skip, and go with half a container. There's such a lot to think about, my mind gets boggled. I keep loosing things, I've lost my mobile last week and lost one of the twins in Tesco's yesterday, luckily she's not shy and got herself to customer services and they called for me over the tannoy. :o As you say the important things are who you're with and where you are, so as long as I don't loose LEO and Rich along the way and we all make it to Australia in one piece it wont matter what else makes it or not because the main ingredients for my "happily ever after" will be in the mixing pot! :D |
