Can anyone help? Is there a policy not to accept people over the age of 45? all the on line points checkers for the immigration agencies dont go any further than my age, I am 47 and a teacher, (partner is 43) and would love to emigrate to Australia. Once my house is sold my partner and I would have enough to buy home in Australia cash and a bit of money to invest in the government bond. Have I left it too late? my daughter (she is 18, and her fiance who is 19)is hoping that I haven't. they want to join us when their college and Uni courses are complete. |

Yes there is a 45yo cut off for most visas. Conversely there is a lower age limit for the retirement visa - 65(?) I think. There are some exceptions to this but they tend to be specialist visas for people with rare or special talents (e.g. entertainers, university professors, etc...) A |

I think a phone call to one of the agencies may be worth while. Most online systems are only geered to the "standard" applications. A human specialist may be able to help better in that aspect. Who can recommend a GOOD agent ? |

Yes 45 is the cut off point for the general skilled visas. However as Penny said if your wife has a profession that can obtain a general skilled visa then your age is not relevant. They usually entail recent work experience though. I assume you have no long lost relations living in Australia who could sponsor you ? If that is a non starter you need to concentrate your efforts on the variety of sponsored visas. ENS, RSMS, STNI, SIR, 457 The 457 is only a temp visa as I believe is the SIR. They can lead to permanent visas but it is dependant on another visa application. In my opinion your best bet would be an RSMS. It is a full PR visa from day one but you do have a 2 year committment to your sponsor. They are Regional visas meaning no living in the big smoke but believe me there is plenty of choice. I don't know much about STNI but I think similar to RSMS. State Nominated is what they are effectively State sponsored. Anyway check out the DIMIA website for info on the visas. Here's a link to start you off. http://www.immi.gov.au/migration/employers/index.htm#summary Booklet 5 gives the finer detail. http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/1131.pdf Try the search function on the DIMIA site to find details on SIR and STNI. Finding a sponsor is of course something else. Internet searches ? Any friends or colleagues know of any fellow teachers gone to Aus ? Recruitment sites ? You can track down the edcation establishments here http://www.agd.com.au/?state=QLD Then of course there's the question of transferring over teaching qualifications to Australian standards. Careful with the daughter too. Remaining dependant is a tricky business. No full time working, living at home, no boyfriends etc. Don't upset her with that last item until you check the implications. Even if dependancy is lost there are other ways but may mean a later move for her. There was something about a remaining relative visa. Don't exclude a look over the water to New Zealand either. A few years there can give you access to Aus. Get your head around some of that then perhaps a visit to an agent could be advisable. Most give one evaluation meeting for free. A lot for you to think about.......a lot to research........ Good luck :) |

I can recommend the Agent we used. His name is John Adams and he is based at Guilford with a company called Montfort International Plc. We found him via an ad in Fresh Start, I think if there's a way for you to do it he'll know the best route. I rang round quite a few agencies initially and he was by far the most friendly and helpful on the phone. We had an hours consultation with him and his colleague for free to discuss our plans and we made our choice there and then to go for it with his help. He has been very efficient, always easy to contact by phone or e-mail and always replys quickly. As all agents though, he doesn't come cheap, but for us worth every penny! Ther's no harm in giving him a bell and just running your situation by him, he may be able to help; RING 01483 202072, best of luck, Beki |

Hi Just to confirm what Bix was saying about STNI visa, yes there is a age limit of 45 years on the STNI visa, as that is the one we have gone through. |
