Need info on Adelaide; Edinburgh area of Adelaide

Hi there hubby has the chance to apply for a job in Edinburgh, Adelaide.
We would appreciate any advice about the area regarding schools, general lifestyle etc. We are currently in a rural town and I would love to live nearer the sea but we came here without visiting Australia at all and have no idea about Adelaide. If the job came through it would be ideal (although not rolling in money about the same as we have here) but it is a scary option moving the kids again after such a short time.
Please help as we have a short time to decide whether hubby should apply for the position and it is only really the fear of not knowing the area that is holding us back. We would love to be closer to a city (although we aren't really city folk we like to have the choice). The kids are all settled in school here and are really happy so I am worried about moving them into the unknown. Our original choice had been SA although I can't for the life of me remember why and we ended up here because of the job offer at the time.
Any advice about the area will be gratefully received especially from anyone with kids.
Thanks
Nicky

Hi Nicky,

Adelaide is a very pretty city with lots of churches/spires. It's not very big as cities go but there are loads of things to do there. I, personally, like Adelaide, although I've only stayed there for very short periods, usually on my way to the Barossa Valley and/or Renmark (where I have some good friends). Can't comment from the kids' angle, as I don't have any.

South Australia generally has a drier heat than many other parts of Oz, so you don't get the humidity of the eastern states. It can get VERY hot in the country areas. Great fruit growing area and loads of winery areas. I believe that a lot of the original settlers to Adelaide were Germanic and so Lutheran churches are more prolific.

Have a look here or here, and there's a load of good links here.

:D Thanks that has given me plenty to check out. If hubby gets to interview stage then we will head over to have a lok but I just wanted to be sure that it was worth opening this can of worms.

I have some links for you to read about people moving FROM Adelaide.

From Adelaide to Brisbane - a good move?

Adelaide Bound - Now decided Brisbane is the place to be!

Adelaide or Brisbane???

looking to move from SA to Brisbane

These all relate to people choosing between Brisbane and Adelaide, but it may give you some more insight ?

I can't recall the topic contents, nor have I been to Adelaide, so I can't give a personal opinion.

Thanks for that. It is very difficult to consider moving everyone after such a short time but if the job came up it would be a good one for hubby. The money is pretty similar to what he is on here but it would be a government job which is what he is used to from the UK (not sure if he is really cut out for the private sector :P ).
We all would prefer to be closer to the sea than our current 3 hour drive and would love to have the opportunity to live closer to a city although Melbourne is a bit too big for us.
We shall have to wait and see whether it gets any further and then do a reccie and decide from that.
Thanks for the help.
