What is the best way to get into the Brisbane CBD. I hear the train can be a long journey in the morning compared to driving in, I guess it must be all the stops. Then I hear the bus has its own lane which knock masses of time off the journey. What about costs? Trains and buses are they cheap or expensive, any special pass you can buy, whats parking like in the CBD (I'm guessing its a nightmare). Anyone who has info for coming in from the northside would be great. |

Sandgate has a train station which is at the end of the line, therefore you're pretty much guaranteed a seat! You can compare bus and train journeys, and get prices, etc., at Translink. I always drove into town as I worked odd hours sometimes, however, this is not the best option and is very expensive if you have to pay for parking. When I was doing it a few years ago, the 'early bird' rates (in before 09:00 and out after 15:00 ish) were about $12 to $15 per day - that adds up very fast! Peak hour traffic in any direction is not good. Like anywhere, it builds up before and after the main working and school hours (ie 07:30 to about 09:30 then 15:30 'til about 18:30). When the school holidays are on it makes a huge difference in the traffic - the main grammar schools (both boys and girls, separate) are at the top end of town, so add significantly to the traffic jams. Best bet is the train or bus if you have a local connection handy and don't need your car throughout the day. |
