hi B,
i tried doing that, but it didnt work.

the scary thing about this malware is that when i did a microsoft scan it turned up zxilch!
running the ad-aware program identified over 500 threat, the trojan program turned up 6 trojans, and the virus scan 1 problem. im still waiting for a response from my thread as to what to do next......... :depressed:

So I take it your back online ok now?

yep.....managing to stay online for a bit now.
the connection dies on a regular basis, and i keep getting porn pop ups and spyware pop ups, but im here!!
I dunno if im laying the computer open to further spyware by being connected to the internet....:dunno:

the annoying thing is i do a lot of my shopping and banking online, and i darent access them!!! its annoying not knowing what my bank account is doing - i dont know if wages etc have gone in, bills are paid etc!!

im dropping off the pages on geekstogo now.....im on page 5! hope i get a response before the 3 days are up (thats when you can nudge em!).

The best anti spyware programme Ive come across is called Xoftspy, I'm not sure if its free or not though.

They do a free version at: http://www.xoftspy.co.uk/ but the full version is quoted at $39.95 on the UK web page  $ not £

I just came across a web page with some good anti-spyware info

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_desc...id,17340,00.asp

I just loaded Microsoft Windows Defender, and it seems easy to use.

Glad to see that you're on the mend now, Sue! I think any donation is good - 10, 15 or 20 quid, if you can afford it. I'm sure they'd even appreciate a fiver! ;)

Btw, there are currently three (no less!) geeks, including Daemon, viewing your log. :thumb:

As much as I'd like to mislead a few people and say 'yes' ;) (in order to get more people hooked on this site instead), I have to be honest and say that I find that highly unlikely. It would appear that you have programmed one of your hotkeys to BE (you probably did it ages ago and have now forgotten about it). Also, this site probably doesn't set as many cookies as BE does.

Everyone should clear out their cookies, history, download history, and temp files more frequently. You can change your settings for this in various browsers.

Another thing is that a lot of trojans, worms and viruses are aimed at Microsoft, so by using another browser you are less likely to be targetted.

I still recommend using Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. :thumb:

IMHO it's a better browser than IE. It'll help to reduce the risk of attack, it allows you to open links in a new tab (instead of having to open another window) and it's got loads of extensions and clever little things you can add to it! For example, I have a gmail notifier and the weather for both Grimsby and Brisbane in the status bar (the one along the bottom of the window). There are loads of other things too.

To get it (it's free), all you need to do is click on the link I gave above and download the programme, then follow the setup instructions (very simple). ;)

Once you've got the hang of it (it's very similar to using IE, but better!) you can have a browse through all the extensions/add-ons which are available here. :thumb:

That'll be a mixture of bad timing online (everyone on at the same time as you from your local area/provider) and Norton.

No, let me repeat it so I can rub it in :D

Norton :(

Bloatware extraordinaire.

Fills your computer with crap and slows everything down.

Rip off merchants too.

Hate it.

Do a Google search on " norton slow computer "

You will see what Bix means.

I can only imagine that those who find it OK, are the lucky few.

Sue.
If you have another anti virus program on your PC uninstall it.
AV's are notorious for clashing with each other and causing all sorts of problems.

Oh, good luck with the lottery.

Just persuaded my company to allow me to ger rid of the Norton Security package.

Downloaded the Norton Removal Tool from their website as the uninstall that comes with the software does not remove everything so continues to cause problems.

Downloaded an alternative virus checker.
Also have Spywareblaster, Spybot and Adaware.

Guess what ? My PC is now flying. :)
Big speed increase.
