Isnt it just brilliant news. Can you imagine what those two men have been through. The mental torture must have been awful. I would be sucking my thumb with my face to the wall by now !!!!!! yes I agree - I hope they rake the money in now - they deserve it. |

http://www.skynews.com.au/story.asp?id=106460 Must admit, I have been wondering lately just what story they will tell "Got stuck in a hole, couldnt get out for 14 days" Dont get me wrong, fair play to them but surely the more interesting story would come from the rescuers? |

Is this just me or is anyone else getting a bit over the whole miners thing?
 They raised over half a million for the (unfortunately) dead miners family on the footie show. Then continued to start a foundation to help the people of Beaconsfield get "back on their feet" The amount of companies who pledged thousands of dollars was touching but seemingly (to me) overkill. I don't remember seeing anything like this when the cyclone hit up north and hundreds of people were without food or shelter for days etc... This was a terrible thing to happen, but apart from one fatality and a craking rescue operation, whats the big deal? These 2 blokes are fit and well and able to go get a job whenever they like, no real change to their daily lives. They can live on the millions given to them for there stories (deservedly) and get some semblance or normality in a very short time. To me the rescuers are the ones who should be quids in....or at least sharing the pot. Perhaps i've just been hardened over the last few months, but nevertheless i am finding the sustained media hype of mateship, courage and back slapping all a bit sick making......Or am i gonna be ostracised as some horrible bitter old cow now <_< :o |

I agree, and good point about the cyclone, thousands of people lost a lot, including their livelihoods in some cases... Must admit I was a bit sick of hearing about it when they were still in there, the media hype is ridiculous. Dont get me wrong, I'm glad they're out but they way they carry on in the media you'd think they'd dug their way out with a teaspoon.... <_< |

The other thing that winds me up is you never hear about the rescuers. They are the real heroes in all of this, if they hadnt been prepared to risk their lives to get those guys out they'd still be down there today. <_< |

I thought that I had heard that on the radio this moring, but couldn't believe it. People should remember that the rescuers are the real Heros of the day. I would assume that the rescuers volunteered to go down and save their workmates. I heard that one of them, the one that actually found them, was even in a very dangerous section, that no one was actually allowed to go into for safety reasons ! Any funds from such material should go towards assisting all the miners that helped, especially as they will be out of work themselves following this incident. |

Couldnt agree more ABCD! I think these two have to be very careful - it's so easy to cross the line from "hero" to "zero" and get to a point where people snub them due to their greed.... |

I agree entirely with abc and bridie, its a thin line. The remark on the footie show about Eddies cheque book was so crass i physically cringed, it was vile. <_< These men will live off their "fame" the other men of the mine, if it closes, will have nothing. The rescuers are the heros lets pay to hear their stories. I think that would be far more interesting than the trapped miners "story". Hmmm it was dark, cramped, scary. We were hot/cold and hungry, how interesting can they make it ffs  I'm over it i'll tell ya  |
