My son has asthma triggered by cold weather and house dust. (No, i'ts not because I hate house work!) It is one of the reasons for going to Oz though as he does not seem to suffer as badly when we are camping in France.

Can anyone comment on their experiences with their asthma in Oz.
Has it been eased by the warmer climate?
Does the general dusty nature of some areas affect them?
Has anyone been stopped from going when it has come up in the medical report?

I keep waking up in the middle of the night with questions! Hubby and kids are starting to believe I am serious about going!

thanks for support with other queries

It won't affect the medical, for sure.

Personally, I still have asthma but it's much more stable and easier to control. Lots of children have asthma here and a lot grow out of it. Don't expect miracles but definitely don't worry either.

Here in Victoria the incidences of pollen related asthma are very high and many people suffer who didn't have any problems before (including 2 of my children). However it is seasonal and for Feb to September they are on no medication at all with the worst problems comming in bursts as particular trees come into bloom.
Good luck.

It can be very localised as well. Our next-door neighbour used to live in Brisbane and suffered with asthma. When they moved 60 km south and 500m up, to Mt Tamborine, it disapperared completely and hasn't returned in 15 years. I wish it would do that for me, but no such luck.
PS you buy Ventolin over the counter here.

Hi my boy now 13 has asthma, he uses a brown preventer every night and morning, and his blue inhaler when he needs it,
(which isn't often only when he gets a cold).

We have been to aus twice on hols and both times, because we were so busy enjoying ourselves, he didn't keep up with the medication and he had no problems, also the second time we left his inhalers in Perth and he had a week without them with no effects. When we returned home it took a fews days to get more inhalers from the GP and within a week he had a chest infection.
I just know for sure he will need less medication out there, he loves swimming and the warm weather will surely play a large part.

As far as medicals are concerned, as long as your son's asthma is under conrol there will be no problems, my sister-in-law and my neice had Asthma and pasted the medicals fine.

don't worry

I suffered in the cool damp atmosphere of Cornwall. Generally not a serious case but used the brown and blue inhalers daily.

Came to the hot and humid tropics and now don't need to use anything.
